CR 1 monsters
Challenge rating 1 monsters are worth 200 XP each and have a proficiency bonus of +2. As a rule of thumb, one CR 1 creature is a fair challenge for a party of four 1st-level characters. Mix one with weaker minions to make a boss scene, or pair two for a hard fight.
