Skirnfen
Fey Illusion Stalker
The Skirnfen is a lithe, six-legged hunter from the Feywild that seems always a step out of reach: when you look straight at it, your eyes insist it stands half a pace to the side. It moves with silk-bellied grace, pouncing from shadow to shadow, leaving only the impression of a curled, blinking silhouette. Its presence warps light and air, making it terrifying not for brute force but for the way it robs certainty — allies swing and miss, spells misfire, and a Skirnfen's vanish is as polite as a sigh.

Silent Pounce (Multiattack). The Skirnfen makes two Claw attacks. If it moves at least 10 feet straight toward a target and then hits with a claw attack, that target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+4) slashing damage.
Evasive Blur (Trait). While the Skirnfen is conscious, attack rolls against it have disadvantage if the attacker is within 30 feet and can see the Skirnfen. If the Skirnfen takes damage from an attack that hits it, the trait is suppressed until the end of the Skirnfen's next turn.
Skirnfen are denizens of the deeper glades and moonlit hollows of the Feywild, where the boundary between truth and mirror-thin illusion is frayed. Hunters of small game and occasional trespassers, they prefer ambush and misdirection to open combat. Tales told at rural hearths speak of a Skirnfen leading a lost traveler in circles until dawn, then nudging them toward a hidden spring that heals old hurts — or coughs black sap into their boots, depending which way the wind blew that season. Scholars of fey lore debate Skirnfen origins. Some, like Archivist Meron Vey of the Thistle Oubliette in the Court of Thistlewing, claim they are the descendants of a prankish courtier spirit and a predatory cat of the outer wood; others suspect they were cultivated by hedge-mages as living decoys. The Order of Lanternhand treats Skirnfen sightings as omens of boundary-bending magic and keeps keyed glass orbs to counter their displacement, while the hedge-witch guild called the Riven Scrip keeps woven talismans to bargain with individual beasts.
A Skirnfen is about the size of a badger or small panther (roughly the height of an adult human's knee). It has six slender, jointed legs ending in padded, retractile claws, a long lithe body covered in short, velvety fur that shifts between charcoal and dusky moss, and two narrow, angular eyes that gleam like dull coins. Along its flanks and shoulders run thin, membranous ridges that catch and refract moonlight, producing a wavering shimmer. Its tail is long and whiplike, tipped with a tuft of silvery fur that seems to blur the air around it when it moves. Small, leaflike growths cluster behind its ears and along the spine, often braided with bits of trapped cobweb and faerie-lights; the overall effect is simultaneously predatory and oddly courtly.
