Gavrenchime
Dirgekeeper of the Flood
A sodden, bell-shaped corpse drifts from the surf, its mouth stretched into a permanent bell curve and a rusted iron clapper hung from its ribs. Wherever Gavrenchime slips through a village, a hollow toll follows — a faint, otherworldly peal that unsettles animals, wilts flowers, and sets mortals' teeth on edge. Those who hear its dirge wither with a cold certainty, as if the bell counts down the last heartbeats of its victims.

Multiattack. The creature makes two Bell Clang attacks.
Bell Clang. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8+2) bludgeoning damage.
Toll of Passing (Recharge 5-6). Gavrenchime lifts its clapper and rings a bone-deep chime audible in a 30-foot radius. Each creature in that radius that can hear it must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of its next turn and take 3 (1d6) necrotic damage as the sound chills its life force. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and is not frightened.
Gavrenchime are said to be the drowned bell-ringers of coastal parishes swallowed whole by storms, their bodies fused irreparably with the church bells they once tended. Superstition holds that a bell-ringer who fails his watch on All-Flood Night returns as one of these things, compelled to toll until his task is complete. Fishermen will cross themselves when they hear a distant peal at dawn; scholars of the drowned call it the "Last Benediction." The Order of the Brine-Lamp, a small band of lighthouse keepers and salt-priests, keeps journals of encounters with Gavrenchime and insists the creatures are not mindless: they seek out the dying and linger at bedsides or in low rooms until the final breath escapes. Sir Cadren Holt, a scholar of maritime hauntings, argues the bell's ring binds the dying soul, giving Gavrenchime a hungry purpose. Coastal towns such as Highmire Hollow and the ruined chapel at Kestrel Reef tell similar tales: leave a bell unstruck and you invite a tolling revenant who mistakes its purpose for mercy.
Imagine a half-decayed parish bell fused to a human torso: mottled bronze and oxidized copper plates form a bell's skirt where the belly should be, dented and streaked with salt. Skeletal hands emerge from torn cassock sleeves, fingers wrapped in seaweed and rope, one permanently closed around a rusted clapper that swings with an internal, unseen motion. The face is water-swollen and pallid, eyes gone to glossy black pits; barnacles and small crustaceans stud the shoulders. The bell's rim hangs to roughly waist height of an average human, making the creature roughly the height of a hunched man (about 5–6 ft.). Wet cloth and algae trail from the hem as it moves, leaving a slick, briny residue.
