What is the Fey Creature Generator?

This free fey generator creates custom 5e fey creatures — tricksters, sprites, hags’ servants and Feywild nobles — with a full stat block at the CR you choose. Fey usually get innate spellcasting with Charisma, charm and illusion magic, flight or misty movement, and a weakness or rule they must follow, plus artwork and lore. Free and no account needed.

Example stat block: Thistledown Trickster

A CR 1 fey made with this generator, with every number worked out by the 5e rules.

Innate Spellcasting. The trickster’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components. At will: minor illusion, vicious mockery. 1/day each: faerie fire, sleep.

Name-Bound. If a creature speaks the trickster’s true name aloud, the trickster has disadvantage on attack rolls against that creature until the next dawn.

Actions

Thorn Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d4 + 4) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) poison damage.

Bonus Actions

Flit. The trickster takes the Disengage or Hide action.

Thistledown tricksters drift on the wind at the edge of the Feywild and steal names the way magpies steal rings. A traveller who loses their name to one can’t say it again until they win it back.

Fey Creature design tips

Fey are the monsters you can talk to. They bargain, they lie in ways that are technically true, and they keep promises to the letter. Put a rule in your description — “cannot refuse a riddle”, “must repay every gift” — and the generator builds the encounter around it.

Mechanically, fey lean on innate spellcasting (usually Charisma), illusions, charm effects and mobility. Keep save-or-lose charms on a recharge at low levels so the fight stays playable.

Fey work at every tier: a CR 1/4 sprite is a nuisance at 1st level; a CR 10 Feywild noble is a campaign villain.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are fey creatures in D&D 5e?

Fey are magical creatures tied to nature and the Feywild: sprites, pixies, satyrs, dryads, hags and archfey. They usually have innate spellcasting, charm and illusion magic, and strict rules about bargains.

What ability do fey use for spellcasting?

Almost always Charisma. Their spell save DC is 8 + proficiency bonus + Charisma modifier, so a CR 1 trickster with Charisma 16 has DC 13.

How do I run a fey encounter that isn’t just a fight?

Give the creature something it wants and a rule it must obey. The generator adds a weakness or bond to most fey so the party can bargain, trick or bind them instead of fighting.

Can I make an archfey or fey noble?

Yes. Set a high CR and describe their court. High-CR fey get more spells, Legendary Resistance and lair lore.

Is the fey generator free?

Yes. No account is needed, within a small daily allowance. Sign up free to keep going and save.
