What is the Elemental Generator?

This free elemental generator creates custom 5e elementals — fire, water, earth, air or mixtures like mud, ash, ice and lightning — with a full stat block at the CR you pick. Elementals get the immunities and condition immunities their element implies, special movement such as burrow, swim or fly, and traits that change the battlefield, plus artwork and lore. Free to use, no account required.

Sucking Mire. The ground within 10 feet of the elemental is difficult terrain for other creatures.

Actions

Multiattack. The elemental makes two Slam attacks.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be restrained in mud until the start of the elemental’s next turn.

Mudsloughs rise where rivers burst their banks over old battlefields. They are not angry, just heavy, and everything they roll over stays where it fell.

Elemental design tips

Elementals are battlefield-shapers. The best ones change the terrain around them: fire spreads, mud slows, wind pushes, ice makes the floor a hazard. Describe what the elemental does to the room and the generator writes it in as a trait.

In 5e, elementals are typically immune to poison and to exhaustion, grappling, paralysis, petrification, being knocked prone and restrained, and they resist or are immune to their own element. They are also tough: large elementals start around CR 5 in the core rules.

Mixed and unusual elements are where homebrew shines. “A slurry of grave-mud and lamp oil” is half earth, half fire and wholly new to your players.

Frequently Asked Questions

What immunities do elementals have in 5e?

Elementals are usually immune to poison damage and to the exhaustion, grappled, paralyzed, petrified, poisoned, prone, restrained and unconscious conditions, and they resist or are immune to their own element.

What CR is a basic elemental?

The core air, earth, fire and water elementals are all CR 5. Smaller elemental creatures such as mephits sit around CR 1/4 to 1/2. Pick any CR in the generator to fit your party.

Can I make mixed or unusual elementals?

Yes. Mud, ash, ice, magma, smoke, salt and lightning all work. Describe it and the generator chooses damage types, movement and terrain traits to match.

How do I make an elemental fight interesting?

Give it a trait that changes the terrain — difficult ground, spreading fire, pushing wind — so the party has to move and think, not just trade hits.

Is the elemental generator free?

Yes, with no account required and a small daily allowance. Create a free account to save elementals to your world.
