The Winking Drake
the small house where favors are traded like coin
You push through a low lintel into a snug room lit by amber lanterns and a scattering of tallow candles. The scent of roasted root vegetables and soot hangs in the air; conversations curl and fold like smoke around the hearth. Maps, brass locks, and a battered bell hang near the bar — and a battered ledger sits open where anyone can add their name or their problem. Patrons lean in close when talk turns to strangers bringing coin and ropes; newcomers are watched with polite curiosity rather than hostility.
A carved wooden drake winking with one eye; the paint is flaked, a single brass scale has been reattached with a nail, and beneath it a faded chalkboard lists 'work wanted' with today's scrawled tasks.

Drake's Wink
5 spA warmed spiced cider laced with a local bitter and a drop of something smoky; it loosens tongues and makes a teller more likely to reveal a single hidden fact (GM decides truthfulness).

Brenn · cook
A stout halfling who seasons everything with a secret herb mix and hums a ragged sea shanty while he works.
Kerys · barmaid

Old Havel
A retired town watch with a scarred cheek who wants a quiet drink but will barter information on patrol routes for a pint.
Mira the Spoon-Whittler
A traveling folklorist carving spoons and collecting stories; she's looking for a ruined watchtower and the name of the soldier who vanished there.
Tomas Reed
A nervous courier who was paid by a masked rider to drop a sealed satchel at the Winking Drake last month and now fears whoever sent it will return.
1
A watchtower three miles east — called Greengate Tower — recently collapsed from a 'storm'; Mira says she found a soldier's signet there that matches a name in Marrek's hidden ledger.
2
A masked rider paid Tomas Reed a sealed satchel last moon and told him to 'wait three nights' at the Winking Drake; the satchel vanished and the rider now rides the lanes looking for anyone who asked questions.
3
Old Havel swears there are silver-holed coins with a crowned wyvern stamped on them being offered to hire folk to fetch a locked chest from beneath the ruined chapel in the hollow.
