How orc names work
Orc names are made to be shouted across a battlefield. One syllable if possible, two at most, built from g, k, r, th, sh and a hard stop: Grul, Thokk, Mugrash, Vorn. There are no soft endings. An orc with a three-syllable name was probably named by a very ambitious mother.
What an orc is really called is their epithet, and it changes. A young orc is "the Whelp" until they do something, then they are "Shieldbreaker" or "the Render" or "Ninefingers" for the rest of their life, unless they do something bigger. Chieftains stack them.
This page is tuned for full-blooded orcs. For half-orcs raised among humans, use the half-orc generator instead. Add "Many-Arrows kingdom" or "sea-raiders" to the flavour box to colour the epithets.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is an orc epithet earned?
By a deed the warband witnessed. The generator writes the deed into the meaning line so you have the story as well as the name.
Do orcs have surnames or clan names?
Not usually. Orcs identify by tribe and epithet. Ask for "with tribe name" in the flavour box if your setting uses them.
Can I generate female orc names?
Yes, use the gender selector. Female orc names use the same hard sounds; only the epithets tend to differ.
