How male names work

Male fantasy names tend to close on a consonant: -or, -an, -ek, -ash, -ion. Elven and tiefling male names stay fairly soft; dwarven, orcish and dragonborn names are hard throughout. Human names depend entirely on the culture you give them.

This generator starts with gender set to male and race set to any, so each roll mixes cultures. Pick a race in the selector to narrow it, or open the race pages below for notes on how each culture names its men.

Add flavour such as "mercenary captain", "wandering monk" or "disgraced prince" to give the names a role. Every result includes a meaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get male names for a specific race?

Yes. Change the race selector above, or open one of the race pages below. Gender stays set to male.

Do the names include surnames?

Most do. The surname follows the race convention: house names for elves, clan names for dwarves and dragonborn, epithets for orcs.

Can I mix a race and a culture?

Yes. Pick the race, then add a culture in the flavour box: "elf, Norse-inspired" or "human, desert kingdom".
