Cirrhurn
Maelstrom Warden
Cirrhurn is a living storm given shape: a rolling, menacing cumulus the size of a longship, punctuated by coiling, lightning-black tendrils and a core like a dull thunderhead eye. It drifts with predatory patience along sea lanes, snuffing sails with gusts that feel like cold hands and striking with jagged arcs of lightning that crack masts and hearts. Sailors swear the thing smells of salt and old thunder, and that it hums with whispering echoes of every drowning plea it has ever heard.

Multiattack. The Cirrhurn makes two Lightning Tendril attacks.
Lightning Tendril. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8+3) lightning damage, and the target is pushed 10 feet toward the Cirrhurn's core if it fails a DC 13 Strength saving throw.
Smothering Downpour (Recharge 5-6). The Cirrhurn releases a sheet of driving rain in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in the area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. A creature that fails the save is also blinded until the end of its next turn as spray and mist obscure sight. Wooden objects in the area have disadvantage on saving throws to resist catching fire until the rain ends.
Static Lure. The Cirrhurn emits a high, keening rumble that mimics a ship's creak and distant voices. Each creature of the Cirrhurn's choice within 60 feet that can hear it must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be compelled to move up to 20 feet toward the Cirrhurn on its next turn and have disadvantage on Perception checks for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Charged Rebound. When the Cirrhurn is hit by a melee attack, it can release a crack of lightning into the attacker. The attacker must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 7 (2d6) lightning damage; half damage on a success.
Folktales along the Silver Strand claim Cirrhurn was born from a bargain between a drowned lighthouse-keeper and a jealous sea spirit: a storm granted memory and hunger for the living who dare rule the waves. Mariners speak of shipping lanes that are never the same after Cirrhurn claims them; buoys show erratic readings, and gulls refuse to fly over certain stretches. Naval captains and scholars of meteoromancy have recorded sightings in the Log of Eshram, an 18th-century volume kept at the Portbourne Archives. The guild of Windwrights treats Cirrhurn with reverence and fear—some seek to harness its winds for trade, while others, like the reclusive scholar Niela Vorendt, maintain a registry of the creature's hunting patterns. Cirrhurn is solitary and territorial: groups of barges or fishing fleets sometimes distract it, but what it loses in speed it makes up for in cunning, learning to mimic fog banks or the silhouette of a friendly squall to lure prey.
Imagine a hulking thundercloud given animal intent: its bulbous mass is a dense, charcoal-gray cumulus streaked with thin blue-white veins of lightning. From its underbelly hang several long, tendril-like whorls of vapor—each the thickness of a ship's mast—that twist and coil like living ropes. Where one might expect eyes, there is instead a darker, swirling core that seems to watch; when it fixes on a ship this core pulses with pale phosphorescence. Rain spills from its flanks in sheets, and salt spray glazes parts of its body with glittering crust. Scale reference: when hovering over the deck of a standard merchant cog, Cirrhurn's lower tendrils can reach the gunwale while its cloud-mass towers twice the ship's height. Textures to emphasize: roiling soft cloud forms, crisp streaks of lightning (bright, jagged lines), wet glossy sheen on the lower vapor tendrils, and faint, runic-like patterns of condensation that circle the core.
