Brumal Ursar
Living Avalanche
A hulking, rolling mass of packed snow, shattered ice, and jagged stone coalesced into the vague silhouette of a bear; the Brumal Ursar barrels downhill with crushing force, its body roaring like a gale and shedding flurries that freeze whatever they touch. It is memorable for the grinding sound of ice and gravel within its chest and the way its paw-shaped bulks collapse into powder and rebuild as it advances — a relentless avalanche given mind.

Multiattack. The Brumal Ursar makes two Slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8+3) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 10 feet away and knocked prone.
Snow Surge (Recharge 5-6). The ursar shudders and slams the ground, spraying a cone of biting spray and sloughing snow in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) cold damage and becoming prone on a failed save, or half as much damage and not prone on a success.
Tales from mountain hamlets speak of the Brumal Ursar as an old guardian-turned-hunger of the high snows: where glaciers grind against ancient bedrock, stray shards of elemental force sometimes knit together with the amassed winter to form one of these beasts. Shepherds and mountaineers leave small wind-charms at ridgelines, hoping to placate the slide-born creature, while the Whitewardens — a loose confederation of alpine rangers — mark and study the scars those ursars leave. Scholar Runemaster Haldun of the Frostbind Archive theorizes the ursars are born from a combination of violent avalanches and concentrated storm-magic; when a mountain's will is strong, it fashions a body capable of moving under its own accord. The beasts rarely venture below tree-line unless driven by hunger or summoned pathos: they favor high cols, crevassed glaciers, and the mouths of frozen gullies. Legends say a Brumal Ursar can be calmed by singing the old snow-chant, but more reliable reports claim traps, wards of heated iron, and the Whitewardens' ice-rifles are the only practical ways to turn one aside.
Envision a bear-shaped colossus roughly the size of a large brown bear reclined against a doorway (roughly 8–9 feet at the shoulder when upright). Its outline is chunky and blocky, formed from layered snowdrift that crackles with embedded ice veins and dark stones acting like knobbly joints. Frosted boulders create shoulder plates and a jagged maw of compressed ice suggests teeth. Steam and fine powder trail from gaps in the form like breath; where its 'fur' should be, there are ridges of packed snow and sheets of slick, glassy ice. The whole surface is pitted with tiny crevices, some glowing faintly with blue-white inner light where trapped cold-energy courses through it.
