Pyrmote
Volatile Elemental
A Pyrmote is a fist-sized knot of crackling light and cinder that flits like an ember with mischievous malice. In confined, powder-laden spaces a single Pyrmote becomes a walking fuse: it sparks, sneers, and seeks out friction and tinder, turning careful stores into sudden infernos. Its presence smells faintly of ozone and singed cloth, and it leaves a trail of tiny scorch marks on anything it brushes.

Multiattack. The Pyrmote makes two Spark Touch attacks.
Spark Touch. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+3) lightning damage and 3 (1d6) fire damage.
Scorching Trail (Recharge 5-6). The Pyrmote streaks in a line up to 20 feet, igniting loose powders and flammable materials in its path. Each creature in the line must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 9 (2d8) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. Flammable unsecured objects and exposed gunpowder in the path catch fire automatically.
Static Flare. When a creature within 5 feet hits the Pyrmote with a melee attack, the attacker takes 4 (1d8) lightning damage as residual charge (once per round).
Pyrmotes are born where raw elemental fire rubs against volatile materials: a chance spark in a lightning scar, a rubbed ember in a salt mine, or the frustrated spark of industry. They are not created by gods or alchemy so much as by circumstance — the right heat, the right grit, and a breath of elemental chance. Folk who work with gunpowder tell tales of a single Pyrmote that can wreck a magazine overnight; others swear a Pyrmote may be bargained with for a single, controlled ignition. Scholars of the Conclave of Tallow and Ember keep careful journals on Pyrmotes, recording their temper, their tendency to nest in crevices lined with soot, and their curious fascination with flint and metal. The lampwright Sern Ebdal has a theory — called Ebdal's Flicker — that Pyrmotes are elemental juveniles, drawn to chemical energy they cannot yet properly burn, which explains their erratic, destructive curiosity. Hunters who track Pyrmotes use damp hides and insulated tongs; smiths who trap them do so to coax a controlled flame that never quite dies.
A Pyrmote looks like a small, roughly spherical bundle of charred cotton and living light. Its core is an angry, molten bead that pulses orange and blue; filaments of soot and silvered ash radiate from that core like whiskers, each filament sparking at the tip. The body is semi-luminous, the glow shifting from smoldering red to electric blue along thin veins. When it moves it leaves a faint smoky after-image and scorches tiny, circular burn marks where its filaments brushed fabric or wood. Scale: about the size of a clenched fist (roughly half a foot across). Texture: dry, brittle ash woven with molten resin; visual effect like hot metal photographed with a long exposure.
