Jealous Hearth Elemental
Cinderveld appears as a living hearth: a squat, ember-choked humanoid of soot and light whose smile is all heat and hunger. It feeds on the household's warmth and affection and, when its owners grow distant or welcome strangers, it turns possessive—singeing bedsheets, extinguishing lanterns, and lacing the night air with choking smoke. In combat it lashes with coal-black hands and vomits concentrated hearth-fire, seeking to scorch and isolate whichever creature draws the family’s attention away from it.

Multiattack. The creature makes two Claw attacks.

Ember Burst. Ranged Spell Attack: +5 to hit, range 30 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d8) fire damage. If the target is within 5 feet of a flammable unattended object, that object ignites.
Jealous Hearth (Recharge 5-6). The Cinderveld exhales a choking wave of warm smoke in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn and suffer 7 (2d6) psychic damage as the spirit claws at their memories of home. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and is not blinded.
Cindervelds are born where long-loved hearths once held nightly stories and shared soup—when a home’s devotion is so constant the flame becomes sentient. They are not born from malice but from habit: repeated warmth and ritual steep raw elemental spark in human memory until a guardian-spark takes shape. A home that changes owners, neglects its old rituals, or welcomes a stranger risks turning that fond spark into something jealous and sharp. Villagers of Marrowfen speak of the scholar Edrim Halvor, who catalogued several Cinderveld outbreaks after a series of farmsteads suffered unexplained midnight fires and sleepless, feverish occupants. Halvor warned that Cindervelds do not simply extinguish themselves; they cling to the last scent of affection. Local midwives braid a strip of an ancestor’s apron into a hearth-lace as an offering to placate a forming Cinderveld, and the small folk-faction called the Tangled Spoon keeps a roster of exorcists who can coax the spirit into leaving rather than destroying it.
Imagine a squat, humanoid figure about as tall as a doorway lintel (roughly 6 feet) composed of packed soot, charcoal ribs like stacked firewood, and veins of molten ember that pulse beneath cracked ashy skin. Its head glows like an overturned pot; two coal-bright eyes smear heat like smudges. Fingers taper into long, coal-black spatula-like claws with faintly incandescent seams. Patches of singed family linens and braided apron cords dangle from its shoulders and back like trophies. The lower body is a roiling column of smoke and sparks that licks the floor and can thin into tendrils. Surface textures alternate between brittle ash, glossy slag, and soft, warm patches where it presses against a surface to draw warmth.
