Three-Sip Still

the hermit's hole beneath the red rim

The Still sits clinging to the lip of a sun-cracked canyon, a low stone lean-to half-buried by windblown sand and draped in patched canvas. Inside the air is thick with the sour tang of corn mash and campfire smoke, dim lanterns guttering on nails set into rock; every surface is sticky with spilled spirits. Conversation is low and guarded — boots scrape, a knife is slid across a table like a coin, and an occasional cough turns the talk to maps, bounties, or who blinked first when the Marshal rode through last month. By the back, a black iron pot hisses over a coalsmoke still, and a crooked ladder leads up to a curtained loft where a few cots are rented by the hour.

Over the door

A warped iron hoop hung by leather thongs; three dented copper cups hang from it like charms. The metal is blackened by smoke; no words, only a crude crescent punched through the center cup.

The keeper

Milt Cress

Human

Manner

Milt runs the place with the patience of someone who has survived worse than a broken glass; he lets scoundrels bargain and thieves weave their tall tales, but he is quick to remind anyone who steps out of line that his knives are as sharp as his memory. He treats regulars like weathered tools—useful and replaceable—but will fiercely protect a quiet guest who pays their coin and keeps their mouth shut.

Quirk

Taps the rim of a cup three times before serving anyone and hums a one-note tune he refuses to name.

Stats

Use the Commoner (use Veteran if threatened); wields a hidden dagger beneath his apron and keeps a loaded heavy crossbow behind the bar.
House special

Devil's Glenshine

4 cp

A sharp, clear moonshine distilled with a pinch of crushed silverroot that bites the tongue and makes secrets feel smaller; one cup eases fear and greases the tongue, granting advantage on Persuasion checks to charm small-time criminals for the next hour, though it awakens a restless dream if drunk before sleep.

Tilda Venn

Bren Dock

A map-obsessed prospector who knows the canyon's hidden gullies and is always looking for a partner to chase a marked X.

Rumours
  1. 1

Marek Hollow is hiding a stolen iron-bound chest deep in Red Fang Cavern; the cavern's entrance is marked by a tooth-shaped boulder.

  2. 2

An old alchemist named 'Kest' left buried notes about a plant called silverroot that can be used to refine moonshine into a powerful truth-sap; Tilda Venn claims to have a jar of powdered silverroot.

  3. 3

A deputy named Hollis Dray once tracked a still to the canyon but vanished; a faded badge and a ransom letter were found near a dry wash.

Look out for
A cracked iron still behind the bar that occasionally emits a thin blue smoke — the moonshine is distilled here.A ledger hidden in a loose stone beneath the bar that records names, amounts and a crude map fragment (requires Perception 13 or a successful Athletics check to remove the stone).
