Gnarled Flask
the hermit's still tucked in Red Gulch
You push past a curtained gap in a canyon wall and the canyon's dry heat is replaced by a small, spice-sour smoke that clings to the rafters. Light from a few battered lanterns pools over mismatched crates and a low bar made from a split wagon wheel; the walls are draped with faded bandanas, a coil of rope, and a ledger stuck with clay. Conversation is kept deliberately low; the few patrons — a pair of cloaked riders, a scabbed prospector, and a woman fingering a pistol — trade glances and coin like contraband. The still itself hisses behind the bar: a copper kettle rimmed in salt, a string of dates drying nearby, and a narrow spout pouring a pale fire into chipped clay cups. The smell of juniper and cactus sugar wraps the room, and someone taps a crooked dagger against wood in time with a thin, reedy tune. Newcomers are watched for a long beat before a calloused hand offers a cup and a price, and even the dogs in the corner seem to keep their distance from a battered crate tucked under the counter.
A battered iron flask hangs from a leather thong over the scratchy wooden door; hammered moonrunes scar the metal and two bullet pockmarks crease its rim. The paint is flaked away, leaving only a dark crescent and a smear of old tar.

Stats
Echo-Moon
1 spA clear, potent moonshine distilled with juniper and a sliver of redstone; it warms the chest and loosens tongues — one swig sharpens hearing (advantage on Perception checks involving sound for 1 minute) but leaves a lingering cough.
Poor (5e lifestyle: about 2 sp a day)
Sera Dust · barmaid
A quick-tongued half-ork who keeps cups full and gossip flowing, but she always pockets a scrap of silver for later.
Old Hobb · cook
An emaciated prospector who boils a single spice stew but serves it steaming with a wink — he remembers everyone's debts.
Mira Knot
An outlaw with a hooked scar and a talent for maps; she wants the Echo Arch cache marked on Brenk's hidden map.
Geth Thornmar
A weary marshal passing through with a retinue somewhere upstream; he's hunting a stolen relic mentioned in the tavern ledger.
Pip the Varnisher
A small-time fence who buys whiskey for information and sells information for whiskey; he always has one more buyer than he admits.
1
Mira Knot claims Brenk once sold her a map piece pointing to a chest beneath Echo Arch; she says the rest of the map is still in the ledger.
2
The marshal Geth Thornmar lost a patrol's supply crate near the Whistling Well two canyons upstream; it contained a carved idol that now draws hunters' interest.
3
Pip the Varnisher whispers that a trader named Jenko the Pale owes a debt to a desert cult and stashed a key in a cairn called Scorpion's Eye.
