Oakblood Hearthsong
the mead hall of the solstice ring
A low, round hall built into the slope of an overgrown knoll, Oakblood Hearthsong smells of smoked honey, roasted roots and green resin. During the solstice the place hums like a beehive: drums and laments, the clack of tankards, whispered blessings to the standing stones outside. Light comes from suspended brass lanterns and a broad central hearth ringed by benches; ivy and harvested herbs hang from rafters, and every surface is scored with rune-marks for names, pacts and toasts. Strangers are welcomed with a ladle of mead and a place close to the fire, but their spoons will pick up the echo of older vows carved into the floorboards.
A carved oak slab hung from iron rings, its grain painted with a single spiralling leaf; the wood is scorched at the edges from past bonfires and a smear of honeyed mead darkens the lower corner.
