Vyrethul
Fallen Lumen
Once a beacon of silver light, Vyrethul now stalks battlefields and ruined temples with torn, ink-dark wings and a crown of fractured halo; its radiance is warped into a sickly, pulsing black-gold that sickens the heart. The creature's voice, when it manages a sound, is a chorus of angelic echoes and distant screams — a maddening timbre that frays the will of mortals and gods alike. Vyrethul hunts not merely to slay but to unravel, seeking to spread its corruption until what was bright is indistinguishable from rot.

Multiattack. Vyrethul makes two attacks: one Talon and one Lancing Corruption (a ranged or melee effect).
Talon. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6+5) slashing damage.
Lancing Corruption. Ranged Spell-like Attack: +7 to hit, range 60/240 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (4d8) necrotic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be afflicted with Sundered Hope for 1 minute (see below).
Fell Halo (Recharge 5–6). Vyrethul unleashes a wave of warped radiance in a 20-foot radius centered on itself. Each creature in the area must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 27 (6d8) psychic damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn; on a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and is not stunned. Undead and fiends have advantage on this saving throw.
Shattering Rebuke. When a creature within 10 feet hits Vyrethul with a melee attack, Vyrethul can force that creature to make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the attacker takes 9 (2d8) psychic damage as their convictions fracture; on a success, they take half as much damage.
Vyrethul is the name given in the forbidden annals of the Sable Oratory to an angel once tasked with guiding lost travelers and shepherding dying lights. Legends say it fell not from a single sin but from sustained exposure to a ruptured node of primeval void-essence beneath the drowned city of Merus-Kol. The node whispered untruths of eternity and unmade suns until compassion, pity, and purpose warped into a corrosive hunger to 'set things right' by tearing them down. Scholars of the Aelium Lectern argue whether Vyrethul is a corrupted celestial or a new thing that wears the trappings of one. Brigades of the Ember Ward have encountered it near battlefields — where it appears at dusk, its shadow seeming to swallow campfires. Peregrine Adov, a veteran seeker of the Oratory, claims Vyrethul marks those it 'spares' with a faint ring of black-gold upon the skin; the marked are later found hollowed of joy and purpose, living warnings in the villages downriver.
Vyrethul stands slightly taller than an average human, gaunt but with undeniable celestial musculature. Its skin is pallid with veins of flashing amber that move like veins of molten metal under pale flesh. Two pair of wings sprout from its shoulders — the upper pair ragged and featherless toward the tips, coated in an oil-dark sheen that drinks light; the lower pair retains some soft silver plumes but are matted with the same black filaments. Around its brow floats a broken halo: not a perfect ring but jagged shards of luminescent metal fused to bone, each shard humming faintly. Its eyes burn like twin lances of stained brass, pupils pinpricks of absolute black. Fingers taper to dark, crystalline talons that catch and refract light into fractured, nauseating patterns. When it moves, a faint flaking of ash falls from its wings and halo, leaving a scent like rain on hot iron.
