Verispar
Winged Truthspeaker
A Verispar is a small, avian celestial that flutters into the lives of mortals bearing precise, unwanted truths. It speaks in a clipped, ringing voice that leaves listeners with the undeniable clarity of a fact they did not wish to know. Though not malicious, its announcements cut like a surgeon's scalpel — relationships fray, schemes unravel, and secrets are exposed simply by the Verispar's presence. They are memorable and terrifying because they make every hidden thing visible for a moment, and that moment is rarely gentle.

Multiattack. The Verispar makes two Beak attacks.
Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) piercing damage.
Unwelcome Revelation. The Verispar fixes a single creature it can see within 30 feet and speaks a single, unavoidable truth. The target must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw or take 4 (1d8) psychic damage and be forced to speak aloud the truth the Verispar reveals about that creature or its recent actions (the DM determines the precise truth). On a successful save, the target takes half damage and resists the compulsion to immediately speak, though the truth's existence is still painfully clear to the target.
Fleeting Wing. When a creature the Verispar can see enters its reach or makes a melee attack against it, the Verispar can use a reaction to fly up to half its flying speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Verispar are born on the margins between the heavens and the world of men, said to be stitched from the parchment of fate and the breath of law. Clerics and sages argue whether they are emissaries of a distant celestial bureau or spontaneous manifestations of cosmic honesty, but most agree that a Verispar's arrival is never random: it seeks out knots of falsehood, omission, or deceit and resolves them by proclamation. Towns that host a Verispar often tell stories of ruined engagements and overturned inheritances after one passed through and recited a single sentence. The scholarly order called the Ledger of Clearings catalogues Verispar visitations, preserving transcripts and attempting to predict future appearances. The Ledger's archivist, Master Hestun of Lowmarrow, keeps a cramped folio of such proclamations and insists a Verispar will not speak unless a truth will be more harmful kept than told.
Roughly the size of a housecat with a 4-foot wingspan, a Verispar's body is feathered like a small hawk but its plumage appears etched with faint, rune-like filigree. Its head is proportionally large, with an elongated beak that ends in a blunt nib like a stylus. Eyes are pale, almost opalescent, and seem to reflect thought rather than light. Tiny, membranous crests along its throat vibrate when it speaks. Legs are slim with delicate, dexterous talons; its tail fans into narrow, paper-like feathers that flutter with a whispering sound. Feathers have a satiny sheen, but when ruffled reveal veins of silvery thread that catch the light like inked lines.
