Pharosyl
Wayward Guide
Pharosyl appears at dusk on lonely roads and mountain passes as a small, lantern-bearing figure whose light bathes a single traveler in a warm, unerring glow. Pilgrims who follow it find their path smoothed of hazards and their fears eased — until Pharosyl vanishes at a crossroad, leaving coins of hammered silver that hum with faint celestial warmth. Its presence is oddly comforting and faintly uncanny, as if the road itself recognizes the small lamp and parts for it.

Multiattack. The Pharosyl makes two Lantern Staff attacks.
Lantern Staff. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) radiant damage and the target sheds dim light in a 5-foot radius until the end of the Pharosyl's next turn.
Guiding Light (Recharge 5-6). The Pharosyl unleashes a burst of warm light toward a creature it can see within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or take 9 (2d6+2) radiant damage and be charmed by the Pharosyl until the end of its next turn. A charmed target that is a creature with a map, compass, or written directions will reveal one truthful hint about how to reach their destination (the DM adjudicates the hint). On a successful save, the target takes half damage and is not charmed.
Stories say Pharosyl were once fragments of a larger beacon kept in a ruined temple of a forgotten kindness deity; when the temple fell, the beacon splintered into motes of sentience that wandered the world. They appear most often on roads that see sorrow — funeral corteges, refugee columns, and pilgrim trails — guiding those who have lost maps, memory, or will. Villagers tell of a single lamp-bearer leading an elderly widow out of a blizzard or of an entire caravan saved when many Pharosyl lit the path through a marsh. Scholars at the Abbey of Folded Ways and the itinerant chronicler Maren Greave have catalogued dozens of Pharosyl encounters, noting patterns: they avoid crossroads tied to bargains, hesitate outside inns where lies are told, and sometimes weep tiny tears of molten starlight into a traveler's palm. The Order of the Waywarden sometimes seeks Pharosyl to bless their waystations; conversely, a handful of superstitious hamlets lock doors at the sight of a lantern, fearing bargains and debts. Few have learned whether Pharosyl choose whom to aid or whether the road itself summons them.
Pharosyl is the height of a child (roughly 3 to 3 1/2 feet tall), with limbs slender and slightly elongated, jointed like a marionette but moving with human ease. Its torso is draped in layered, moth-winged shreds of pale cloth that shimmer faintly with star-speckled embroidery. Where a face would be is a smooth, faintly luminous mask of pearl, with two slow pinpricks of light for eyes. It carries a tall, iron-stemmed lantern crowned with filigree — the flame inside is a small globe of white-gold light that pulses with the bearer’s breath. Skin, where visible at wrists and ankles, appears as cooled silver-tint metal veined with blue, as if moonlight were trapped beneath a surface. Scale notes: show a human pilgrim standing beside Pharosyl to illustrate size; include the lantern held high, casting long, crosshatched shadows, and a suggestion of a narrow mountain pass or rutted pilgrim road in the background.
