Skelvyr Kalt
Blizzard Sentinel
Skelvyr Kalt is the impossible thing that watches a mountain pass through white noise: a hulking, frost-scarred sentinel of living ice and rune-bone, its many eyes like chips of black glass that track travelers through howling snow. It does not rush or roar; it waits until the storm itself seems to thin, then tilts its crown of serrated ice and the wind obeys it, pointing the lost and the brave toward death. Encountering Skelvyr is not a clash of arms so much as the sudden recognition that the mountain has found a way to concentrate winter into a single, patient predator.

Multiattack. The Skelvyr makes two Claw attacks and uses its Frost Maw if available.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 28 (4d10+5) slashing damage plus 9 (2d8) cold damage.
Frost Maw (Recharge 5-6). The Skelvyr exhales a cone of crushing cold in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 19 Constitution saving throw, taking 55 (10d10) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Creatures that fail the save are also restrained in blocks of brittle rime until they or an ally succeeds on a DC 19 Strength check to break them (escape DC 19). Objects and gear not worn or carried become encased and are immobile.
Watchful Gaze. Ranged Spell Attack: +11 to hit, range 120 ft., one target the Skelvyr can see. Hit: 22 (4d8+4) psychic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or be paralyzed with the sensation of being endlessly observed until the end of the Skelvyr's next turn. The Skelvyr can use this once per turn outside of its legendary actions.
Frostbound Counter. When a creature the Skelvyr can see hits it with a melee attack, the Skelvyr causes a spray of frozen shards. The attacker takes 9 (2d8) cold damage.
Elders of the frozen valleys speak of Skelvyr Kalt in the same breath as avalanches and crevasses: not merely a hazard but a custodial force. Folktales claim these sentinels were born from the first great blizzard that sealed the Pass of Halvyr; trapped spirits and primordial cold congealed around carved antlers left by shepherds, and the mountain's need for guardians shaped them into purpose. Scholars of antiquities call the process 'glacial consecration' and argue Skelvyr are part-guardian, part-ward—creatures bound to watch thresholds until the mountain's will itself moves them. Nomads avoid the high roads when the wind keens unfamiliar tunes; caravans hire weatherwardens and give offerings at cairns to appease what watches. The Order of Fenric, a pragmatic guild of mount guides and storm-sages, maintains a ledger of Skelvyr sightings and claims one such sentinel once turned aside a band of raiders by freezing their mounts solid in the middle of a ridge. Few seek combat; those who defy a Skelvyr are more often recorded as 'lost to the white' than slain, as rescue in its domain requires knowledge the Order jealously guards.
Skelvyr Kalt stands taller than a two-story doorway, an assembly of layered ice plates, columnar bone, and rime-slick fur. Its torso is a hulking mass of packed snow and blue-veined glacier-ice, seamed with dark, antler-like ribs that jut outward like a crown of broken spears. Where a face might be is a vertical plane of polished, onyx-black lenses—dozens of them—glinting like coal in a hearth, set above a maw that can exhale a blast of living frost. Its limbs are long and jointed with cartilaginous plates, ending in hooked talons of clear, glassy ice. Along its back run six ragged banners of frozen moss and a fringe of stiff, silvered fur that crackles as if with static. Hands and shoulders bear runic sigils etched in frost; faint steam-lattice veins of cold pulse under the surface, especially when it awakens. The creature's scale should be shown next to a cloaked human (about knee-high to its forelimb) and a mountain pass waymarker so an artist captures its gargantuan size and the harsh, windblown environment.
