Glimmergourd
Cunning Animated Pumpkin
A squat, grinning pumpkin that moves with surprising deliberation, the Glimmergourd is unsettling because its carved visage seems to watch and judge. Vines like pale fingers lash from its stem to snare prey, dragging anything foolish enough to touch it into a damp patch of earth where the pumpkin waits to slowly sap warmth and motion. Its carved mouth can exude a faint, eerie phosphorescence that makes it unmistakable at night — a lantern that lures rather than guides.

Vine Grasp. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6+1) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 11). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained by the vines and the Glimmergourd can't use Vine Grasp on another target. The Glimmergourd can pull a grappled creature up to 10 feet closer to it as part of its movement.
Phosphor Glare (Recharge 5-6). The Glimmergourd's carved face emits a sudden bright glow. Each creature in a 10-foot cone must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, a creature is not blinded but has disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of its next turn.
Glimmergourds are not simple farm tricks but a minor folk spirit given shape by careless magic or a prank-minded hedge witch. They appear most often on the edges of old orchards, ruined homesteads, and along hedgerows where ley trickles thin. Farmers who tell of them speak of missing tools, scattered henhouses, and the tiny depressions left in soil where the gourds settle to feed; a plucked Glimmergourd often rots in days if not returned to earthen coolness. Scholars at the Quietgrove Conservatory catalog them as temperamental sylvan constructs; Archivist Melros of Quietgrove wrote that some Glimmergourds are deliberately fashioned by low-level hedge magic as guardians for seed stores or as playful familiars for children who know to keep away from a gourd’s stare. The Hunter's Accord — a rustic guild that patrols orchards and estates — sometimes collects or neutralizes troublesome specimens and keeps records of where clusters of Glimmergourds have nested, noting that they avoid deep forests and fear large burrowing beasts that disturb their rootbeds.
Roughly the size of a small barrel (about two feet across), the Glimmergourd's ribbed rind is a mottled orange with streaks of green and a faint, lichen-like fuzz. Its carved features — triangular eyes and a toothy grin — are cleanly cut but sometimes seam with thin veins of dark sap. A short, knotted stem sprouts a tangle of thin vines up to 6 feet long; these vines have tiny hooked tendrils and a slightly sticky sheen. The underside shows a thickened root nub, flattened where it rests on soil; when it moves, the pumpkin rolls and flexes subtly, the vines pulling like reins. Occasional faint inner light leaks from its mouth and eyes, giving the carved face an uncomfortably sentient glow.
