The Salted Lantern
the inn where sails come to rest
You push through a low wooden door into warm, oil-lamped air and the steady clink of cutlery. The center room is broad and timbered, tables scarred with rope burns and playing cards; a long counter runs opposite the entrance where the keeper presides. To the left, a narrow hallway opens into small, private rooms whose windows look out over the quay; to the right, three snug single chambers form a quieter set of lodgings. Up a worn stair, the entire upper floor is a tidy barracks of stacked bunks, smelling faintly of soap and tar. Conversations are earnest and low — sailors swapping routes, a pair of merchants counting coins, a fiddler in the corner keeping time — while the hearth fills the room with a comforting, salty warmth.
A battered brass lantern encrusted with salt hangs from a curved iron arm; the glass is clouded but a steady wick burns inside. A carved wave motif rings the base; paint is flaked but the light is kept bright.

Lantern's Glow
5 spA sweet, spiced wine topped with a float of warmed honey and a curl of orange peel; it calms nerves and sharpens memory for an hour — a patron gains advantage on a single History or Navigation check made within the hour.

Miri Colt · barmaid
Quick with a mug and quicker with gossip; she remembers which sailors are owed favors and which are owed a caution.
Hallow · cook
A broad-shouldered halfling who seasons everything with smoked seaweed and tells the same stew story loudly and proudly.
Bran the Gate · bouncer
A retired boatswain who stands by the stairs and gently steers troublemakers back toward the door or into cellars for cleaning duties.
First Mate Joss
A scarred human sailor always nursing a cup of hot wine and itching to hire hands for a short salvage run.
Old Quince
A retired tidewright who knows where grognards keep their secrets and watches the room for anyone prying too hard into shipwreck stories.
Tamsin Vell
A sharp-eyed fisherwoman who trades rumors for a free meal and once found an odd brass token in a net (linked to Garron's ledger).
1
The wreck of the Stormhand lies in a shoal-snarled cove two tides east; Captain Merris's ledger (in Garron's chest) names a sealed locker that supposedly holds a jeweled compass.
2
A diver named Keth has been offering maps for hire that show an old merchant chest sunk near the Marker Stones; he says Old Quince knows a diver's trick to reach it safely.
3
At low tide a wreck-watchman called the Pale Keeper lights a lantern on the northern reef and speaks to voices beneath the waves; Tamsin swears she hauled a brass token from that reef matching those in the ledger.
