Zarxith are sinuous, draconic snakes that ripple with static hair and crackle faintly with electricity. They strike like a thunderbolt — darting between rocks or across tree branches, delivering bites that sting with charged barbs and occasionally exhaling a narrow gout of lightning. Their presence is announced by the metallic tang in the air and the sudden silence of birds and small prey, and hunters tell of finding the blackened remains of nests where Zarxith hunted at night.

Multiattack. The Zarxith makes two Bite attacks.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+3) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) lightning damage.
Lightning Breath (Recharge 5-6). The Zarxith exhales a 15-foot line of crackling lightning in a direction it chooses. Each creature in that line must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking 9 (2d6 + 2) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Naturalists argue whether Zarxith are a degenerate offshoot of true dragons or a unique convergence between serpent and storm. They favor high, jagged ridge-lines and cliffside scrub where storms boil and lightning is frequent; frequent strikes charge mineral-rich outcrops, and the serpents seem to feed on the ionic energy as much as on flesh. Tribes of cliff-dwellers revere Zarxith as omens; some shamans stitch their skins into ritual pouches to absorb 'good storms'. Scholars at the Meridian Institute recorded the first formal study of Zarxith after an expedition led by Archivist Hest Ocren survived a night trapped on a storm-swept ledge with a pair of the serpents. The Institute's field notes describe a hunting technique in which the serpents use short bursts of lightning to stun flocks of small avians and to flare insect swarms, then swallow the stunned prey whole. The Order of the Brass Helm keeps a wary treaty with cliff-folk near the Stormspine, trading metalwork for warnings of Zarxith nesting activity.
A Zarxith is a long, lithe snake about 8–10 feet from nose to tail tip. Its scales are small, overlapping, and glassy, like shards of blue-black mica threaded with pale electrostatic filaments that glow faintly when angry. A narrow crest of short, serrated scales runs from between the eye ridges down the neck; these scales bristle and stand on end when the creature charges a breath. The head is triangular and draconic rather than serpentine, with ridged nasal bones and a pair of tiny, vestigial ear flaps. The mouth contains recurved teeth and a forked tongue that sparks when it tastes air. Eyes are pale silver with slit pupils. The belly scales are paler, almost ivory, streaked with bright cyan along the ribs where static tends to pool. In scale, a Zarxith would fit comfortably curled across the width of a standard cottage doorway; it coils on cliff ledges or in creviced rock hollows where lightning might strike close by.
