Glaesirn
Frigid Drake
A Glaesirn is a compact, swift dragon of living ice: its breath smells of metal and its scales gleam like frosted glass. It hunts with cunning patience, stalking high passes and frozen ruins before bursting into sudden flight, blasting prey with shards of breath-cold and tearing with hooked jaws. What makes a Glaesirn memorable is its eerie silence in snow: the thin, glassy clack of its scales and the sudden sheets of crystalline spray that signal an ambush. Even wind and torchlight seem to hesitate near its presence, as if the air itself tightens into brittle frost.

Multiattack. The Glaesirn makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Claw.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d8+2) piercing damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+2) slashing damage.
Cold Breath (Recharge 5-6). The Glaesirn exhales frigid mist in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 14 (4d6) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Glaesirn are not the slow, venerable wyrms chronicled in most dragon lore; they are the nimble, razor-toothed hunting drakes born from winters where magic and storm collide. Folklore among mountain folk claims a Glaesirn can be spun from a single snowstorm that lingered too long over a haunted ledge. Scholars of the Order of Frost-Meld suggest they are a cold-weather offshoot of true dragons, magically stunted and adapted to ambush tactics rather than hoarding vast riches. These drakes favor cliffside lairs carved with alcoves and ice shelves, often above avalanche chutes where falling snow hides their approach. They prey on mountain goats, hunting parties, and anything small enough to be carried for a few dozen paces; desperate Glaesirn will attempt to strip travelers of firebrands and warm wool. The explorer-scholar Veldrun Kest has a collection of Glaesirn claws and argues they once served as scouts to greater ice-dragons — a claim some treat as heresy, others as explanation for the creatures' uncanny pack-sense. The ruined watchpost at Skaerfen Glacier is often pointed to in tales as a place where a small roving clutch of Glaesirn still hunts caravan routes.
Think of a streamlined dragon scaled in layered, translucent ice plates. A Glaesirn is about the size of a warhorse with a lithe, sinewed body: narrow chest, flexible spine, and a tail tipped in a jagged fin of frozen crystal. Its head is wedge-shaped with a narrow snout; fenestrated bone ridges above its eyes resemble frost-caked brows. Scales vary from smoky pale blue to clear, glass-like panels that catch light and cast tiny rainbows; edges are often serrated like shaved ice. Limbs are long and ending in three-toed feet with hooked talons, and small wing membranes connect fore and hindquarters more like a bat's than a true wyrm's — enabling quick darts and sharp banked turns rather than long soaring flight. The throat and inner wing membranes show a deeper, cobalt tint, and veins of trapped air produce faint, trembling frost that creeps along the scales when the drake breathes.
