Morlunth
God of Pain and Sorrow
Morlunth is a gaunt, sorrow-wreathed presence whose voice is a pressure on the mind; wherever it walks the air chills and the world seems dimmed. It does not roar or strike with brute force so much as tug at memories and unspool grief, turning a battlefield's discipline into trembling, tearful disarray. Facing Morlunth feels like being blamed for a crime you don't remember committing and bearing the weight of a thousand personal losses at once.

Multiattack. The creature makes two Claw attacks.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8+2) slashing damage and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on its next attack roll as painful recollections cloud its focus.
Wail of Sorrow (Recharge 5-6). The creature releases a low, keening wail. Each creature within 30 feet that can hear it must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 10 (3d6) psychic damage and is frightened until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and isn't frightened.
Legends say Morlunth is not one being but a name given to an entity born where mass grief pooled — a place where the living and the dying blamed each other for sorrow until the blame took form. Shrines to Morlunth are rare and secret; worshippers are often cults of masochists and bereaved who believe suffering cleanses or reveals truth. The Order of the Hemlock Veil keeps a locked archive of hymns and counter-rites, convinced that Morlunth is a god whose influence can be contained with ritual mourning. Scholars disagree whether Morlunth is truly divine or a fiendish parasite that attaches to centers of communal pain. Archivist Meren of the Greybind Library recorded accounts from the seafaring village of Rell's Hollow, where survivors swore the god visited each winter and took a day from each household's happiest memory. Adventurers who seek Morlunth's lair often find once-thriving places turned quiet and overgrown, and the few who return speak of sobs that come from the walls themselves. The Order of the Hemlock Veil walks the razor-line between bargaining with Morlunth and keeping its rites from those who would feed it slaughter.
Morlunth stands slightly taller than a human, elongated and lean as if stretched by perpetual grief. Its skin has the papery, gray translucence of old parchment, veins faintly inked in deep violet. The face is disturbingly smooth; instead of eyes there are shallow, weeping hollows that glisten with black lacquer tears. Its mouth is too wide when open, lipless and rimmed with fine, needle-like teeth. Long, jointed fingers end in curved, narrow talons that look more like quills than claws. Around its shoulders hangs a rotting ceremonial pall studded with small tokens — broken toys, wedding rings, rusted knives — all fused into the cloth as if memories have been sewn there. Movement is a gliding, lurching gait; it seems to inhale sorrow as it moves, and the air closest to it shimmers with faint motes of pale luminescence like drifting ash.
