Ghurzlek
Cavern Devourer
A squat, scaly creature with bulging, wet eyes and stubby, knuckled limbs, the Ghurzlek moves with a jerky, desperate intelligence. Twin backward-curving horns crown its skull like the curled roots of some subterranean tree, and a maw full of needlelike teeth opens far too wide for its narrow face. It speaks only in frantic croaks and the soft rasp of claws on stone — and it hunts with a single-minded hunger, bursting from rock fissures to tear at anything warm and loud enough to attract it.

Multiattack. The Ghurzlek makes two attacks: one Claw and one Gore.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10+2) slashing damage.
Gore. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10+2) piercing damage.
Pounce. If the Ghurzlek moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a Claw attack on the same turn, the target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is knocked prone, the Ghurzlek can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action that deals 7 (2d6) bludgeoning damage.
Ghurzleks are creatures of stone and shadow, thought to have crawled into the world from deep fissures where light never reaches. Miners tell of tunnels suddenly sprouting rasping echoes and piles of half-eaten gear; farmers near limestone bluffs swore their sheep were dragged from folds by muscled hands that left only claw prints and a faint sulfurous smell. Old trappers among the Order of Tarrun maintain that Ghurzleks were once cave-dwelling predators that learned to follow the scent of smoke and the vibration of footsteps into ruined keeps and cellars. Scholars disagree on whether Ghurzleks are a mutated offshoot of a known predator or a distinct branch of subterranean monstrosities. Belyn Kor, a naturalist who cataloged the Neroth Hollow tunnels, claims they burrow into mineral seams and are drawn to iron and copper, sometimes nesting near old veins until displaced by modern mining. Legends say a single Ghurzlek can call more from the dark with a high, keening wail; caravans that ignore that warning song sometimes find their wagons torn apart at night by an ambush of hungry, horned forms.
Short, hunched body roughly the size of a large dog (about waist-high to a human), covered in overlapping, pitted scales that glint dull gray-green. The head is too large for its body, with a flattened snout and a set of two curving horns that arch backward from the brow — each horn is ridged like layered shell and stained with mineral deposits. Eyes are pale amber and bulging, with nictitating eyelids; ears are reduced to small slits. Forelimbs end in three thick, knuckled digits tipped with black, blunt claws; hind limbs are muscular and slightly longer, allowing sudden lunges. A short, whip-like tail trails behind. Scales along the throat and belly are smoother and almost translucent when backlit, and the creature's maw is ringed with fine, inward-angled teeth. Scrapes, fossilized grit, and mineral encrustation gather in the folds of its skin; a faint, sulfurous sheen clings to the horns and teeth.
