Korveth Tuch
Chaos Beast
A compact, heavy-bodied predator wrapped in oily black fur and ringed with clusters of eyes, the Korveth Tuch looks like a twisted cross between a marten and a small wolf. What makes it uncanny is the way its many eyes blink and shift independently — one pair glows with an inner pigment-cup shimmer that always scans for arcane signatures, while other pairs flare to life and die like candles, trading thermal, simple, and dark-sensing modes. Packs of Korveth Tuch move with nervous coordination, ambushing snakes, rodents, and unwise travelers; their slashing tongues and gnashing bite are precise, and the beast's odd sensory profile makes it unnerving to corner and even easier to mislead with a clever illusion.

Multiattack. The Korveth Tuch makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Tongue Lash.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+2) piercing damage. If the Korveth Tuch's heat-sensing eyes are active, the target takes an extra 4 (1d8) fire damage as the beast aims for exposed warmth.
Tongue Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+2) slashing damage. On a hit the target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength check or be knocked prone (the tongue's serrated edge and the beast's momentum can topple smaller foes).
Korveth Tuch are native to transitional realms where woodlands meet bog and scrub — places dense with tangled roots, sunlit clearings and sudden, steam-slick marshes. They evolved as opportunistic omnivores: they scarper through underbrush hunting snakes and small game, scavenge carrion, and peel fruit and tubers with the same quick, dexterous jaws. Packs are small (typically 3–7 animals) and highly territorial; a pack will scent-mark feeding paths and will abandon a den if persistent illusion or excessive magical interference unsettles their pigment-cup eyes. Scholar Beren of the Velnor Archive recorded the first thorough study of Korveth Tuch when an expedition into the Keevar Marsh encountered a litter that had adapted to the sulfur springs — their heat-sensing pair was enlarged, granting near-thermographic precision. Folk songs in villages near Hestwick speak of the beasts as tricksters that 'see the weave of sorcery' and can be fooled by a painted rock or a clever shadow-lure. The Order of Grey Junctures keeps a dossier on Korveth Tuch, noting a pronounced susceptibility to illusion magic: overly ornate glamour or phantasms can unbalance their sensory priorities and scatter a pack in confusion.
Draw a squat, heavy-set carnivore about the size of a large dog (roughly up to a human's knee height), with dense black fur that lies glossy when wet and bristly along the spine. The head is broad, muzzle short but muscular, and the jaw fitted with blunt crushing molars and a long, narrow, blade-edged tongue that lashes like a serrated ribbon. Eight eyes sit in four roughly symmetrical pairs around the skull: a central pigment-cup pair over the brow (slightly recessed, iridescent), a low, forward-facing simple pair above the muzzle, a lateral pair set along the temples (heat-sensing — slightly lidless and rimmed in pale fat), and a rear pair at the crown that opens into deep, pupilated darkvision lenses. The eyes are of varying sizes; the pigment-cup eyes are smallest but always active and faintly emitting a soft luminescence. Limbs are short and powerful with partially webbed, clawed paws. Tail is thick and tapering. Textural detail: fine whiskers reduced and stubby, wet nose that twitches constantly. Show scale by placing a crouching human silhouette beside a doorway-sized den entrance.
