The Marrow Ledger

the black-market bar folded in a god's ribs

You duck beneath a rib the size of a watchtower and into the cramped shadow between cartilage folds. The air smells of cured blood, old incense, and something sweetly metallic — coin turned to copper in heat. A low constellation of lanterns made from hollowed teeth casts jittering light across stalls carved from vertebrae; the crowd is a foul collage of planar oddities: debtors with ghost-silk cloaks, a hag selling bottled echoes, and a pair of blink-demons arguing over a plate. Conversations are spoken in clipped sigils and barter clicks; the barkeep eyes new faces with a ledger always at hand.

Over the door

A cracked iron rib hoop hung with a ledger bound in dried sinew; the ledger's pages are stabbed through with a tarnished bone pin. The leather is moth-eaten and a smear of old ichor darkens the lower corner. No words, only a tally of tiny symbols on the first page.

The keeper

Graxil Dohr

half-fiend (cambion)

Manner

Graxil runs the bar like a tight ledger: every favor is noted, every debt has a page, and he treats newcomers with the same bored courtesy he offers the regular swindlers — polite, calculating, and always two steps ahead. He'll smile as he robs you blind and file the favor under your name for later collection.

Quirk

He scratches a tiny tally mark behind patrons' left ears with a bone awl when they leave, always whispering the number aloud.

Stats

Use the Cambion warlock (Chain) variant; AC 13 (natural armor), carries a bone-tipped stiletto and a smoke jar under the bar.

Ledger's Shiver

5 sp

A foul amber concoction of tooth-liqueur, a drop of ink from a ledger page, and a sliver of bone; it sharpens memory for precisely one hour — you recall exact faces and bargains but also hear a faint chorus of creditors calling your true name.

Regulars

Rook of Tenfold

A grizzled planar thief who claims to have a key to the Tessik Vault and is looking for muscle to pry it open.

Nim the Binder

A bargain-scarred binder who is trying to sell a bottled whisper from the Sundered Cartilage Gate.

Old Hesh

A retired cult courier who mutters about 'Gorren the Atlas' — a corpse-cartographer who mapped paths through dying gods.

Rumours
  1. 1

Rook of Tenfold says the Tessik Vault beneath the god's sternum holds planar passports that let you cross a godfold without a guide.

  2. 2

Nim the Binder claims someone bargained for the Sirenbone Ledger in the smuggling cavern and the ledger's owner, 'Vessun the Quiet,' keeps a bone-key hidden in an ossified hummingbird.

  3. 3

Old Hesh mutters that Gorren the Atlas drew a map on the inside of a dead god's eyelid; those who find the eyelid can walk paths no cartographer should know.

Look out for
A battered ledger on the bar where patrons can record favors; entries sometimes fade or bleed into other names.A small stall near the hearth where planar curios are weighed against favors rather than coin (house rule: each favor traded alters the patron's reputation tally).
