What is the Haunted Tavern Generator?

This free haunted tavern generator makes a cursed inn or alehouse from one sentence. You get the sign, a keeper with a personality, a quirk and the secret behind the haunting, the staff and regulars, a menu and rooms with coin prices, and rumours that point at the ghost, plus an illustration. No account is needed.

Haunted Tavern tips

A haunted tavern is a ready-made one-shot: the party takes a room, something happens after dark, and they have until dawn to find out why. The keeper’s secret is the answer, so keep it hidden until they earn it.

Use the rumours as clues. Each one should point at a different part of the story (who died, where, and what they want), and the regulars are your witnesses and suspects.

A haunting does not have to be a ghost. Describe a curse, a bargain or a door that should not be there, and the generator will build the inn around it.

Draw the room

The free map generator draws the tavern as a battlemap with a grid, for the brawl that is coming.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I run a haunted tavern?

Treat it as a one-night mystery: a strange event after dark, clues in the rumours and the regulars, and the keeper’s secret as the answer. Let the party lay the ghost to rest by finishing what it started.

Does the haunted tavern generator make the ghost?

It makes the haunting, the keeper’s secret behind it and the clues. For the ghost’s stat block, describe it in the free Monster Generator, e.g. “the ghost of a murdered innkeeper, CR 4”.

Can the haunting be a curse instead of a ghost?

Yes. Describe any curse, bargain or strange rule and the generator builds the inn around it.

Is the haunted tavern generator free?

Yes. No account is needed, within a small daily allowance. Sign up free to keep generating and save taverns to your world.
