Veshmir Linebow
Imperial Somadorian Archer
A Veshmir Linebow stands with the cold efficiency of a trained soldier: he is lean, hooded, and always keyed to the rhythms of battle lines and volley commands. In combat he is less a single killer than a precise node in a disciplined formation, loosing careful shots that pick off officers, suppress casters, and break charges. What makes him memorable is the eerie calm of his aim — even when the smoke and bodies pile up, his expression never changes, and his arrows find small vulnerabilities in armor and morale alike.

Multiattack. The Veshmir Linebow makes two Longbow attacks.
Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+3) piercing damage.
Tactical Volley (Recharge 5-6). The Veshmir Linebow fires a quick coordinated volley along a 30-foot-long, 5-foot-wide line within 150 feet. Each creature in the line must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 14 (4d6) piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. A creature that fails the save by 5 or more is also knocked prone.
Parry. The Veshmir Linebow adds 3 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, the archer must see the attacker and be wielding a shield or dagger.
The Veshmir Linebows form the backbone of the Imperial Somadorian army’s light infantry: expert marksmen drilled to fire in ranks and to hold complex fields of fire under command. Recruited from border provinces where hunting survives as a rite of passage, a recruit receives years of training with longbow and crossbow at the hands of sergeants known as the Rangemaesters. The Linebows are as much instruments of doctrine as they are warriors; doctrine prizes rate of fire, disciplined volleys, and the suppression of enemy scouts and skirmishers. Field reports by the scholar Isen Krol, who observed Somadorian maneuvers along the Irrath Pass, note that Veshmir squads often operate with a specialist called a "sighted standard" — a low banner bearing streamers that mark their synchronized lines — and that they will purposefully aim for gear and banners to fracture enemy cohesion rather than seeking flashy kills. Legends among border folk hold that the Veshmir Linebows once routed a band of raiders by felling only the horses in a single breath; the image of those thirty mounts collapsing together still haunts tavern songs. The Somadorian War Council (the High Tribunal of Sarn) prizes these units; commanders who lose their Linebows through poor command often face a tribunal of their own.
A Veshmir Linebow is a compact, wiry humanoid in layered field-gray leathers and a mottled cloak designed to break outlines at range. He wears a small, domed iron skullcap (not a full helm) and a throatguard, leaving his jaw and cheekbones visible — often gaunt from long campaigns. Across his back hangs a long yew or composite longbow with reinforced nocks and a quiver slung at the hip containing narrow-headed flight arrows. His hands are scarred and callused; a strip of leather wraps the inside of his forearm. Pouches and a rolled cloak sit at his belt; a short arming dagger and a light pavise (portable shield) are strapped to his left side. Scale: about the height of an average human (roughly 5'8"), with the bow extending another 4 ft. above his head when slung. Textures: tight, scratchy cloth and worn leather with polished metal rivets; the bow shows fine grain lines; arrows have feathered fletchings that fray at the edges.
