Malthysar
Infernal Voice
Malthysar is not a hulking brute but a speaking apocalypse: a lithe, horned fiend whose voice bends reality. It never gestures or reaches into pockets for components — every curse, ruinous command, and world-shaping spell it casts requires nothing but a syllable spat in a baritone that vibrates the bones. In combat it walks among its foes like a conductor, using a single word to shatter armor, rend flesh, or call down infernal conflagrations. The terror it inspires is subtle and absolute: one hears a phrase and months of prosperity unravel as if memory itself obeyed the fiend’s tone.

Multiattack. Malthysar makes two Claw attacks and uses Hellfire Blast once.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6+5) slashing damage.
Hellfire Blast (verbal spell). Ranged Spell Attack: +11 to hit, range 150 ft., one target. Hit: 45 (10d8) fire damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn as embers lash its mind (a stunned creature repeats the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success).
Commanding Word (Recharge 5-6). Malthysar utters a single dour syllable. Up to three creatures of Malthysar's choice that it can see within 60 feet must each succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or be forced to obey a short, simple compulsion for 1 minute (as the dominate person spell limited to commands that do not require complex actions). A creature that succeeds is immune to this effect from Malthysar for 24 hours.
Innate Spellcasting (verbal only). Malthysar's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 19, +11 to hit with spell attacks). Malthysar can cast the following spells with only verbal components, requiring no material or somatic components. At will: detect thoughts, suggestion, thunderwave (as a 2nd-level cast) 3/day each: dispel magic, counterspell, wall of force, greater invisibility 3/day each: disintegrate, lightning bolt (as a 9th-level, 10d6 cast), finger of death 1/day each: meteor swarm, power word stun Additionally, Malthysar can cast plane shift (self only) at will. These spells are innate and do not require gestures or materials — only Malthysar's voice.
Echoed Rebuke. When a creature within 30 feet hits Malthysar with an attack, Malthysar can use its reaction to force that creature to make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure the creature has disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the end of its next turn and takes 14 (4d6) psychic damage as the afterword of Malthysar’s insult; on a success it takes half as much damage and suffers no disadvantage. Malthysar can use this reaction twice, regaining uses at the start of its turn.
Elder tomes name Malthysar in fragments: the Voice that Signed the Pact, the Courtier of Broken Oaths. Its origin is debated — some scholars of the Collegium Noctis claim it was born where spoken contracts were first forged, a being that learned how to bind the world by utterance. Others, like the infernalist Lysar Thorne of House Varkul, insist Malthysar was a fallen tribunal spirit, exiled to the lower planes after adjudicating a verdict that unraveled a god’s court. Malthysar favors ruined civic centers: abandoned halls, collapsed courts, and the echoing chambers of ancient lawgivers. It feeds on structure — legal, social, and metaphysical — and cultivates worship in secret rites of oathbreakers and corrupt magistrates. Factions such as the Knot of Silent Bonds and the cabal called the Glass Advocates have attempted to bind or bargain with it; each bargain shows the same pattern: prosperity for a phrase, and eventual collapse when the phrase is spoken in a different cadence. The scholar Miren Hassa of the Archivum Ardentis warns that any recorded recording or imitation of Malthysar’s voice carries a contagion of intent: spoken words echo back into the world as laws obeyed by force.
Malthysar stands roughly human height but seems slightly too upright, its shoulders narrow and its limbs long and composed. Skin the color of smoked brass is stretched tight across an angular skeleton. A crown of five thin, backward-swept horns rings its scalp like a jagged halo. Its face is narrow, lips thin and often parted in the suggestion of speech; when it speaks the throat moves with a slow, wet precision and faint glyphs trace its vocal cords in a dull carmine. Its eyes are pale amber with vertical pupils and bloom with an inner pinprick light whenever it prepares a spell. It wears layered judicial robes — dark, threadbare, embroidered with rusted silver sigils of authority — that whisper but never catch the wind. Small chains and broken signet rings hang from its belt like talismans. Texture notes: the skin is faintly scaled near the spine, horns show striated rings, robes are coarse wool with brittle metallic thread. Scale: depicted next to a human figure of average size; Malthysar is as tall as a man but visually elongated and gaunt.
