Threefold Tide Lantern
the tavern that reads a cup of ale
You step inside to a dim room lit by low lanterns whose light trembles like tides. The air smells of brine, roasted onion, and the sharp citrus of preserved lemons; the murmur of stitched-together sea shanties and an undercurrent of whispered confidences surrounds clustered tables. The crowd is a blend of net-mended fishermen, cloak-wrapped merchants, and the odd salt-tongued spellcaster who leans toward the bar when the keeper lifts a glass. Behind the bar, bottles of stained glass reflect the lights; the keeper moves with a calm that makes even the most hardened sailor lower his voice and listen while she sips and hums as if tasting the ocean itself.
A battered brass lantern boxed in driftwood hangs over the door; a crescent of mother-of-pearl is inlaid on one pane and a smudge of old blue paint suggests an eye that has been rubbed smooth by sailors. Salt stains the chain and a faint ring of dried kelp clings to the bottom.

Cup of Countercurrent
2 spA small goblet of spiced ale and kelp-distillate that Marta tastes and uses to 'read' a person's immediate luck for the next hour — a soft shimmer around the lips if favorable, a cold aftertaste if caution is needed.
Comfortable (5e lifestyle: about 2 gp a day)
Jonik Brine · barmaid
A barrel-broad half-orc who pours with one steady hand and an ear for gossip; she shields Marta and the ledger with a practiced scowl.
Edda Hullen · cook
A thin woman who grew up on drying fish and makes a mean sea-herb stew that sailors swear keeps off scurvy for a week.
Harbormaster Gell
A retired harbormaster who checks the tide by Marta's readings and is quietly hunting for the wreck where his lost daughter vanished last spring.
Thin Finn
A small-time diver who offers leads about submerged markers in exchange for Marta's ale and a place to warm his feet.
Captain Mirek
A scarred trader who pays handsomely for safe channels and keeps asking Marta if the tides 'favor a bold purse' — he covets whatever chart Marta hides.
1
The Hollow Stern: Thin Finn says he found an old carved figurehead that points toward a shoal that only appears when the tide 'backs its eye'—it's where an old shrine and a chest of coral masks are rumored to lie.
2
The Drowned Ledger: Captain Mirek whispers that a map torn into strips and sold at market pieces by piece will lead to a trapped cargo of enchanted lanternstones that can summon fogs on command.
3
Harbormaster's Plea: Harbormaster Gell is hiring discreet folk to search for his daughter Lisse; she vanished while diving near a submerged bell that locals claim rings on moonless nights.
