Lantern of the Last Tide
the port tavern where the ale remembers
Salt and citrus, with an undernote of something sharper — sea fennel and sump-ink — hit your nose as you duck under the low lintel. The room inside is dim: clusters of yellow candlelight caught in glass bowls, the lantern's slow, blue tide-glow pooling on the wooden floorboards. Conversation drifts in low currents; fishermen trade maps with couriers, a cloaked courier counts coins by a sliver of moonlight, and a pair of merchant's wives match stories about a vanished brig. Glasses clink like shells; the ale looks darker than it should, and when the keeper lifts a mug she watches the surface as if reading a map.
A weathered brass lantern filled with a sliver of glassy seawater hangs over the door; faint etched wave-runes circle its base and a single barnacle-clasped starfish is nailed to one corner.

Tide-Reading Cup
5 spA small glass of seawort cordial poured into a cup rinsed in tidewater; Morgun reads the swirling surface and murmurs a line of fate — the drink steadies the nerves and grants a comforting vision (advantage on one Wisdom (Insight) or Charisma (Persuasion) check related to a person's truthfulness within the next hour).
Comfortable (5e lifestyle: about 2 gp a day)
Jory Knot · barmaid
A quick-handed former deckboy who knows every berth in the harbor and can refill three mugs without spilling a drop.
Bren the Hearth · cook
A squat, cheerfully scarred cook who seasons the stews with sea-salt and scalded pepper and hums sailors' shanties while he works.
Tamsin Gate · bouncer
A retired longship helmsman with a hook-hand and patient eyes; she breaks up fights with a single flat statement and escorts trouble to the quay.
Ebbin Vole
A cartographer who trades coastal sketches for ale — he's been trying to map a reef that shifts nightly and wants someone to chart it with him.
Marta 'Twofold' Ires
A small-time smuggler who pays handsomely for discreet information about which cargoes are being watched by port guard cutters.
Coren Pike
A washed-out mate who keeps asking about the Wayward Briar and claims someone aboard took his sister; he wants a crew to find the ship.
1
The Wayward Briar: Coren Pike says the brig vanished into a night fog and that a flagged bit of its sail washed ashore covered in runes; Morgun's lantern wept a single name when asked about it.
2
Greyhook Reef: Ebbin Vole claims a new reef has risen near the old fisher's shoal that eats compasses and rearranges chart lines every dawn.
3
The Customs Ledger: Marta 'Twofold' Ires whispers that a port official named Harben Cole keeps a private ledger of incoming crates — one entry lists a sealed chest for the Wayward Briar that no one else has claimed.
