Varrux the Ironmantle
Titanic Construct
Varrux the Ironmantle is a towering riveted colossus of hammered plates and exposed clockwork: when it moves the air tastes of hot iron and ozone. It is not merely a war machine but a walking foundry, steam and blue sparks leaking from its seams as massive pistons pump through joints the width of wagon wheels. Varrux's single, pupil-like furnace-glow eye locks on intruders with patient inevitability; where it treads the earth shudders and spouts molten slag. The uncanny slowness of its voice — an inhuman grinding of gears — makes its rare utterances seem like verdicts from an age that made gods from metal.

Multiattack. Varrux makes three Slam attacks, or two Slam attacks and uses Seismic Stomp if the stomp is available.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 36 (4d10+10) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 19 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Seismic Stomp (Recharge 5-6). Varrux stomps the ground. Each creature within 30 feet of Varrux must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, taking 45 (6d12) bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Terrain made of loose earth or stone in that area is fractured and becomes difficult terrain.
Molten Spout (Recharge 6). Varrux opens a furnace vent and spews a cone of molten slag 60 feet long and 10 feet wide at the end. Each creature in that area must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, taking 54 (12d8) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. Flammable objects not being worn or carried ignite.
Reactive Shield. When targeted by a ranged weapon attack, Varrux raises a plated forearm; the attack has disadvantage and Varrux gains resistance to the triggering attack's damage.
The creature can take 3 legendary actions per round, choosing from the options below.
Slam. Varrux makes one Slam attack.
Advance. Varrux moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Overload Burst. Varrux vents a pulse of electromagnetic force in a 20-foot radius. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn. Constructs and creatures with immunity to psychic or poison automatically succeed.
Carved into the annals of the northern forges, Varrux predates the current kingdoms. Old charters recorded it as the 'Mantle of the Foundry', a colossal ward fashioned by the guild-masters of Harn when the first iron veins were bled into roads and rails. As the forges of Harn fell from a hundred bloody changes of rule, Varrux wandered the slag flats and ruinous workshops, slowly learning to mend itself with whatever it found. It is said that Varrux will defend great centers of metal and fire — ancient vaults, volcano-carved forges, or the last standing bellows of a dead god — with implacable guardianship. Scholars such as Ildem Veyne of the Empirical Collegium have argued that Varrux was not designed for slaughter but for stewardship: its memory banks catalogue ore seams, smithing techniques, and ancestral oaths. Folk tales from miners' encampments claim that Varrux can be bargained with by offering a technique lost to time or a tool made with a heart-iron rune. The Blackchain Cartel, however, has tried and failed to break it, and the ruin called the Crowned Anchor still bears the dents of their ironclad engines. Where Varrux journeys, new forges and iron-born life spring up — and then, if it judges them corrupt, are ground into scrap to feed its ever-burning hearth.
A hulking framework of overlapping iron plates riveted with huge square-headed bolts; each plate is pitted and heat-stained, seams welded with filigrees of old guild sigils. Its torso is a domed furnace with a slit like an eye that glows molten orange; a lattice of pipes and steam valves crowns its shoulders and chest. Limbs are composed of articulated pistons and geared segments, cables like tendon-bands, and oversized knuckles that scar stone when closed. Exposed cogs and a visible chain-drive run along the spine; small waste vents belch sparks. Scales of flaking black soot and streaks of oxidized green suggest centuries of weathering. Scale reference: when standing, the top of a human's head reaches roughly the midpoint of Varrux's forearm; Varrux can stride through a city gate with only its shoulders brushing the lintel. Artists should render heavy texture — crosshatched pitting, rivet shadows, and oily streaks — with pen strokes suggesting weighty mass and metallic sheen.
