Nerrusk Pike
Bog Sinker
A long, mottled predator that slides through reed-choked water like a shadow with teeth, the Nerrusk Pike is notorious for the way it pins and drags wading livestock beneath the surface. It attacks with surprising speed from cover, seizing limbs and flanks with needle teeth and then anchors itself beneath the mud while frantic hooves thrash above. When multiple pike hunt together they can strip a grazed shoreline clean in a night, leaving only churned mud and a silence that haunts local farmers.

Multiattack. The Nerrusk Pike makes two Thrust attacks.
Thrust. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d10+1) piercing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 11). While grappled by the pike, the target is restrained and the pike can use a bonus action to attempt to drag the target 10 feet toward deeper water or into underwater mud. A creature can escape the grapple by using its action to make a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check against the grapple DC. If the pike successfully drags a Large or smaller creature into water at least 5 feet deep, the creature begins to drown on the pike's next turn unless it escapes.
The Nerrusk Pike is native to slow, reedy marshes and fenlands where deep silt and tangled vegetation hide its bulk. Folk in river villages tell of eyes glowing like drowned coins at dusk and of low whining calls that sound like cattle lost in fog. Wetland shepherds often leave floating bells or tethered poles at the edge of watering holes to warn of the pike's presence; those who ignore such customs sometimes lose a beast to the pike's dragging bite. Scholars such as the naturalist Elric Vossen (author of Fen Fauna of the Lower Mire) have studied the pike's unusual hunting strategy: they use groups to herd prey toward softer mud, then latch onto an animal to exhaust it before pulling it below. The Order of Reedwardens, a local marsh-guarding guild, trains rookies to spot the pike's telltale water-ring ripple and to drive off smaller groups before they learn to target larger stock animals. Legends claim older pike can sense the weight and panic of a herd and call kin with a rising throat-song that ripples the marsh at night.
A Nerrusk Pike is a hulking, elongated fish-like beast roughly the length of a crouching pony (about 8–10 feet from snout to tail). Its body is broad and flattened across the back, covered with overlapping, mottled scales that blend peat-brown, moss-green, and smudges of mud. A low crest of ragged, leaflike fins runs from the crown of its skull to the base of its tail; these fins are tattered and often host clinging algae and reed fragments. The head is long and wedge-shaped with a bony ridged snout and a mouth full of short, needle teeth designed for gripping. Small, lidless eyes sit high and forward on the skull and reflect faintly; two short barbed pectoral fins help it lock onto prey. When dragging, the pike's powerful tail and low ventral muscles heave, and its jaws clamp onto limbs with a wet, sucking sound. Scales near the throat and gill-slit are often stained with silt and the dried fibers of prey.
