Gutterwrit Knave
Revenant Brigand
Once a cutthroat of the docks, the Gutterwrit Knave lurches with a crooked gait and a grin of broken teeth, its sword arm swinging with the sluggish persistence of rot-driven hunger. Its movements are halting but relentless; it closes like a tide, leaving a smell of brine and sour flesh. What makes it terrifying is not cunning but inevitability — it keeps coming until something stronger breaks or buries it, and its presence spreads a pall of fetid sickness to those it wounds.

Multiattack. The Gutterwrit Knave makes two Rotting Cut attacks.
Rotting Cut. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+3) slashing damage plus 4 (1d6) necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be afflicted with rotting filth. While afflicted, the creature takes 4 (1d6) necrotic damage at the start of each of its turns. The afflicted creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
Gutterwrit Knaves are reanimated brigands commonly found where refuse meets tide: derelict wharves, collapsed tenements, and the forgotten cellars beneath portside taverns. They arise when violent deaths in cramped, disease-ridden places are stitched to grudges or bargains with lesser necromantic forces. Local folk call them gutterwrit for the filaments of dried harbor muck and threadbare rags that cling to their skin like scabs. Scholars of the Guild of Fallen Coin have cataloged dozens of variants and note that Gutterwrit often appear in small gangs led by a single, larger reanimated captain. The antiquarian Hesturn Clay marked the ruins beneath Grayspill Docks as a common lair, where she found rotting coins threaded into the ribcages of these brigands — a grisly sign that some dead clung to their last thefts. Rumor holds that a petty cult called the Salt-Fisted Brotherhood bargains with the currents to claim drowned corpses and bind them to shoreward revenge, though few can prove the link beyond recovering knives still wet with brine.
A Gutterwrit Knave stands roughly as tall as an average human but hunched, with one shoulder drawn higher by a stiffened tendon. Its skin is a patchwork of green-gray putrefaction and clotted salt, taut over jutting ribs and snapped collarbones. The face is lopsided: one eye socket weeps a thin black fluid while the remaining eye milky and fixed; lips are peeled back to expose uneven, sand-scarred teeth. It wears remnants of a battered leather jerkin and a frayed sash of netting; rusted buttons and a braided cord of dock twine hang from the belt. Its right hand grips a long, rust-stained cutlass with notches along the edge; the left often curls into a grasping claw. Small barnacles and salt crust cling to its boots and lower garments, and a faint, viscous film of brackish slime leaves prints on the floor as it walks.
