The Wandering Lantern Post
the inn that appears where three roads disagree
You push through a wind-scraped curtain into a warm, oddly arranged common room. The floor is an assembly of mismatched planks and flagstones that never quite meet the walls the same way twice; a mosaic of road dust and spilled ale stitches the space together. Low lanterns hum with a faint blue heat and the air smells of iron, cinnamon, and old paper maps. Conversations stop for an instant when a new traveler steps in, then pick up in different tongues—each voice seems to guess which road emptied into the room last. At the far end a low table holds a ring of brass milestones and a curled scrap of parchment that someone has been adding names to.
A battered iron lantern hangs from a crooked post over the door; its glass is clouded with soot and a tiny compass rose is etched into the metal. The lantern is usually unlit; when it burns it casts a single band of light pointing down whichever road the inn will move to next.

Stats
Crossroad Amber
5 spA sweet, smoky spirit infused with crushed compass-flowers; one sip steadies a traveler's hands and fills the drinker with an uncanny sense of the nearest three exits. Mechanically, for 1 hour you gain advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to find paths or exits and a +1 bonus to saving throws against being lost (not cumulative with similar effects).

Mave Cork · barmaid
Slow to laugh and quicker to fold notes into the seams of the benches, she remembers who slept where and what each road traveler left behind.
Tobin Hark · cook
A taciturn ex-merchant who seasons everything with dried citrus and a pinch of something that makes you dream of roads you've never walked.
Hett Varn
A one-eyed cartographer who trades maps for shelter and is obsessed with tracing the Post's previous positions to find the stone that guides it.
Sura Veer
A roving roadwarden who keeps a ledger of missing milestones and suspects the Post is a moving key to an old ley-route; she'll hire guides to recover such relics.
1
The obsidian milestone of Coldcross is missing from the west hollow and a guild of tomb-keepers claims it will open the sealed gate beneath the hollow if returned to its rightful plinth.
2
Hett Varn believes the Post last anchored itself beside the drowned chapel of Maren's Well; he seeks a party to explore the well and recover the carved mile-mark today.
3
Sura Veer has a warrant: an order of roadwardens will pay double for any 'moving landmark' that can be found in three different towns—she names the order's captain, Ralun Keth, as the contact.
