The Iron Bell & Bit
the miners' hall beneath Stonevein
Stepping through the low, timbered doorway is like walking into the belly of a forge. Soot and wet wool hang in the air, mingled with the sharp, yeasty tang of boiled barley and the coppery smell of spent lantern oil. Lanterns strung from ceiling beams cast amber pools between the crowded tables; the constant heartbeat of the place is the end-of-shift bell — a single clang that shivers through the rafters and usually turns polite arguments into full-on melees within a minute. Miners in patched leathers laugh with chipped teeth, grease-streaked children dart between legs, and a pair of pickaxes lean where a brawl recently ended. The bar is a thick slab of blackened oak, nicked from thousands of elbows, behind which barrels sweat and a battered brass bell hangs ready to start the next round.
A soot-dark iron bell with a miner's drill bit crossed behind it, hung from a short chain; the metal is dented and scorched, rim bright where hands have rung it a thousand times; no words, only the emblem

Bellringer's Wake
5 spA double-measure of lantern porter mixed with a bitter root tincture and a pinch of smoked salt; it burns on the way down and steels the nerves — drinkers gain advantage on their first Strength (Athletics) or Constitution saving throw within the hour from bravado or numbing courage.

Mirek · barmaid
A wiry halfling who flings mugs like frisbees and remembers everyone's tab and enemy's names in equal measure.
Otta · cook
A broad-shouldered human who bangs out thick stew in a black pot and seasons every dish with a pinch of soot for the miners' comfort.
Foreman Heggan
A scarred man who runs the Deep Aegis Shaft and wants quiet labor — he'll pay handsomely to keep certain maps off the table.
Gert Drumtoe
A retired tunneller who claims to have found a vein of blue ore 'that glows at midnight' and is always one drink away from leading a salvage party.
Nim the Ledger
A nervous gnome bookkeeper who cross-checks pay chits and has a soft spot for secrets he sells to the highest honest bidder.
1
A washed-out prospector at the bar swears the Blue Drift under Tunnel Nine still hums with raw ore but the entrance is warded by a strange carved totem — ask 'Gert Drumtoe' or risk the sink-in.
2
Foreman Heggan quietly offered Nim the Ledger five gold to 'lose' a night's payroll documents; Nim says he refused, but someone else took a copy — it names a paid watchman at the old drift.
3
A lost lantern and a scratched iron tag bearing the sigil of 'House Veldar' turned up in the cellar hatch; Bramuk paid a coin to the finder and told them not to speak its name in the hall.
