Netted Lantern Hall
the fishermen's hall at the first herring moon
The door opens into a low-ceilinged hall hung with wet nets, drying sardine ropes, and strings of shimmering silver fish scales that catch the oil-lamp light. Tonight every table is scraped clean and piled with platters: salt-cured herring, black bread, and steaming chowder; the air is sharp with brine, smoke, and the citrus tang of preserved lemons. A fiddler stands on a barrel near the hearth while rowdy fishermen clap and stomp; someone clatters out a wooden horn and the crowd answers with a chorus of slap-hands and bawdy lines. Shadows from the lanterns pool against the beams, making the posted catch-boards and hand-scrawled prayers to sea-spirits look like stories you could walk into.
A battered iron lantern wrapped in a salt-stiff net; the glass is cracked but burns with a steady blue wick. No words, but a faded painted herring arcs beneath it.

First-Herring Flip
5 spA frothy mix of spiced rum, beaten egg, a splash of citrus brine, and one ground silvered herring scale (a Hall tradition). It brings heat to the chest and a touch of sea-glow to your cheeks—drinkers gain advantage on Performance (singing) checks for the next hour but suffer a -1 penalty to Stealth as their laughter carries.

Old Mappa insists the Maris' Folly sank east of Widow's Needle and that an ivory whistle recovered there will call something that remembers captains by name.

3
