Founders' Final Keg
the alehouse at the mine's root on Founders' Day
You climb the last timbered ladder and step into a low-ceilinged vault hewn from coal-black stone. Lanterns strung from chains throw a warm, amber light on banners stitched with the mine's founding sigils; steam and the sweet burn of roasting meat cloud the air above a rowdy semicircle of benches. Drums made from old ore-carts keep a steady, ankle-deep rhythm as miners in dust-streaked mail trade tall toasts while children dart between legs with sugared nuts. Everywhere are signs of ritual and revel: a chalkboard ledger of names begun generations ago, a battered iron basin used for oath-drinking, and a small raised stone platform where, later tonight, someone will recount the founding tale beneath a cascade of clinking mugs.
A heavy iron ring hung on a stub of pickaxe; the ring is polished bright from decades of hands and stamped with three interlocked runes — one shallow chip where the metal was struck long ago.

2
Nell Brim murmurs that the founder's war-hammer, Embercleft, was never buried but hidden inside a carved stone statue in the old chapel shaft — and someone has been chipping at the statue at night.
3
Milo Bristlecoil offers coin for escorts to a newly opened side-stope where phosphorescent fungi and a blue glow bleed from a crack; he believes it reveals the heart of a dormant elemental vein.
