Gloura Veyl
Clockwork Fey Inventor
Gloura Veyl is a brilliant, eccentric artificer of the Feywild who grafts gleaming clockwork to living things and sprinkles her inventions with prankish fey glamours. She appears more curious than cruel — until the lights of her creations go out and something in the underdark hums in answer. In combat she blends precise mechanical strikes, blinding misdirection, and uncanny subterranean tricks that leave foes lost in mirrored tunnels or harried by animated brass motes.

Multiattack. The Gloura makes two Rapier strikes or casts a spell and makes one rapier strike.
Clockwork Rapier. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8+4) piercing damage and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or have one limb feel numb — on a failed save the target's speed is reduced by 10 feet until the end of its next turn as clockwork filaments disturb its joints.
Spellcasting (Intelligence). The Gloura is an 8th-level spellcaster. Her spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 15, +7 to hit with spell attacks). She knows the following spells. At will: minor illusion, prestidigitation, thaumaturgy 3/day each: mirror image, invisibility (self only), misty step 2/day each: greater invisibility, major image 1/day each: darkness, nondetection The Gloura can cast certain spells as rituals as noted by the DM. She favors illusions and practical utility magically augmented by clockwork effects.
Animate Motes (Recharge 5-6). The Gloura releases a swarm of shimmering clockwork motes into the air. She animates 1d3 Tiny clockwork motes (use swarm of insects stats but single entity: AC 13, HP 7 (2d4+2), Immunities: blinded, deafened; no languages). They appear in unoccupied spaces she can see within 60 feet and obey her mental commands. On its turn each mote flies up to 30 feet and can make a single touch attack: Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4+2) bludgeoning damage and the target is covered in glittering clock-dust that sheds dim light in a 5-foot radius until cleaned. The motes last 1 minute or until destroyed (AC 13; hp 7).
Reactive Unwind. When a creature the Gloura can see hits her with a melee attack, she can use her reaction to impose disadvantage on that attack roll as she briefly unwinds a coil and jerks aside (once per round).
Gloura Veyl is said to have been apprenticed to a guild of tinkers who crossed the Seams — the thin places linking the Feywild to the stone veins leading deep beneath the surface. Where other fey spin illusion from moonlight, Gloura learned to weave clockwork and ley-spark together, setting wind-up hearts beneath petals and replacing beetle shells with brass casings. Her workshops drift between mushroom groves and abandoned forges; travelers who find the doors note the ticking heartbeats in the walls. Scholars of fey machinery — notably Master Ardent Opher of the Sundered Cog — argue Gloura's work is an attempt to craft a new kind of life, one that can endure both the caprice of the wild and the long patience of stone. Expedition journals from the Delver's Lantern Company tell of her creations luring miners into collapsed tunnels and then guiding the survivors out, smiling all the while. Local Underdark denizens fear the whispering motes she releases; some quaggoth cults worship the ‘Bright-Winding’ as a herald of a new age when the wild and the subterranean will merge.
Gloura is small and lithe, with the angular grace of a fey artisan. Her hair is threaded with copper filaments and tiny spinning gears that click softly when she thinks. One sleeve is rolled to reveal a forearm of polished brass plates hinged with red leather; delicate etchings glow faintly where feyrunes meet solder. Her eyes glint like watch faces — one a pale green lens, the other a depthless dark lens that sometimes shows reflected tunnels instead of pupils. She wears layered skirts made of stitched map fragments and oily linen, with a belt of pouches containing springs, glass beads, and folded pieces of moon-silver. Small clockwork motes, shaped like beetles and hummingbirds, nest in the folds of her clothing and dart outward at a whistle. Overall textures: warm brass, cool moon-silver, worn leather, and faintly luminous runic inlays. Scale reference: about the size of an adult human's forearm to fingertip, she stands roughly 4'8" tall; the motes are tiny, no larger than a fist.
