Furrowram

Highland Harrower

A Furrowram looks like a compact, muscular mountain goat whose twin horns have been unnaturally flattened and sharpened into gleaming ploughshare blades. It charges with machine-like determination, gouging terraces and rock faces with curved metal edges that ring like struck iron. Herds of Furrowrams move with agricultural precision across alpine slopes, scraping at soil and stone and leaving furrows where none existed — a sight both eerie and strangely purposeful.

Actions

Multiattack. The Furrowram makes two Horn attacks.

Horn. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10+3) slashing damage.

Ploughing Charge (Recharge 5-6). The Furrowram moves in a straight line up to 30 feet and makes a single Horn attack against a creature in its path. If the attack hits, the target takes the Horn's damage and must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and pushed 10 feet along the line of the charge as the Furrowram's horn-blades gouge the ground around them.

Lore

Furrowrams are native to high crags and stony terraces where thin soils cling. Some say the first Furrowrams were ordinary goats mutated near ancient stone-forges, where runoff carried fine filings into mountain springs. Others claim they are the living result of an ancestral pact between shepherds and an earth spirit, a bargain to make stubborn slopes yield. Whatever their origin, Furrowrams are now woven into mountain folk memory: they are blamed for sudden terrace channels that ruin a pasture and praised when a gullied slope becomes arable after a season. Scholars at the Heklor Cartographers' Guild keep careful notes on Furrowram paths, since the animals reliably reshape ravines in ways that reveal buried strata or hidden springs. Folklore also records the Cult of the Furrow — a small sect of hill-farmers in the Varrun fold who attempt to domesticate Furrowrams for deliberate land-sculpting. Attempts to fully tame them almost always fail; Furrowrams are sociable only with their herd and fiercely protective of the lines they carve. Hunters who think to raid a herd for prized horns soon find themselves facing a coordinated countercharge that can collapse loose scree and trap pursuers.

Appearance

A Furrowram stands slightly shorter than a common draft horse's with a compact, dense body built for leaping between ledges. Its coat is coarse, salt-and-pepper grey with streaks of mineral dust that gleam like mica. The most striking feature is its horns: each horn has been flattened to a broad, crescent-shaped blade like a farmer's ploughshare, the outer edges honed to a blunt but terrifying sharpness. The horn-blades are mottled dark steel with striations as if forged and hammered, and they curve outward then inward, giving the ram a forward-facing pair of scything plates. Hooves are broad and callused, with ridged undersides for grip; the legs are sinewy with thick joints. Eyes are small, slate-colored, and alert. Scars and chips in the horn-blades show their use in rutting and rock-work. Scale: roughly the height of a large human at the shoulder; pictured in a mountain pass beside a ruined dry-stone wall or narrow terrace.
