The Nightwheel Mill
the mill where the wheel keeps turning after dark
You push open a creaking oak door and the room smells of warm grain, wet timber and a faint metallic tang. Moonlight slants through flung-open shutters, catching motes that spin like seeds in the shaft of a windmill; against expectation a battered wheel set in the wall slowly turns, making a soft, patient thud that keeps time with the murmur of conversation. Tables are rough-hewn mill planks, patched with water-dark stains; a low hearth gives off comfortable heat while shadows pool in corners where shelves of sacks and old milling tools lean like watchful hands. Villagers and a few bedraggled travelers crowd the benches — they keep their voices low and their eyes flick to the wheel as if listening for a story in its rhythm.
A carved timber sign shaped like a waterwheel ringed with cropped sheaves; the paint is flaked away and one spoke is repaired with brass rivets, no words, only a smudge of black oil at the hub

Wheelman's Turn
5 spA warm mix of cider, a bitter herb tincture and a sliver of toasted grain; one cup calms the hands and makes the mind feel like it's following a steady rhythm — advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to listen to movement for 1 hour, but a dull ache behind the eyes for the next hour.

Isen Tarl
The village stonecutter who pays in labour and watches the mill's spokes, convinced the wheel guards a map carved into the underside of the millstone.
Sib Halse
A traveling peddler who sells trinkets and insists the wheel's turning keeps luck away from anyone who sleeps at the mill.
1
Tomas Kett's cart was found empty two fields from the mill; Old Rull claims he heard Tomas calling from inside the wheel the night he vanished.
2
The millstone underside bears a faint spiral map leading to the 'Well of Ashes' in the old marlpit; Isen Tarl says he can chip a sliver to reveal it if someone pries the wheel free.
3
A hunter found a child's wooden whistle stuck between the paddles three nights ago and swears the whistle will only sound when the wheel is turning at midnight.
