The Inkspun Ledger
the snug room beneath the binders' lofts
The bell above the door tinkles like a tiny typeface and the air smells of leather, glue and evening cinnamon. Shelves line the walls from floor to low-beamed ceiling; every shelf holds neat stacks of blank journals, repaired spines and — impossibly — a cat asleep atop each pile. Lamplight pools on varnished tables where patrons tap quills, read illuminated pamphlets or trade gossip in low voices. The hearth throws soft warmth; behind the bar, rows of thin drawers labelled in careful ink hold sewing needles, endbands and odd trinkets. Conversation here is the quiet kind that presses the page flat: comfortable and companionable, the sort of place a travelling scholar will linger for an extra night.
A worn brass plate shaped like a closed book, ink-stained edges and a tiny embossed paw in the corner; the hinge is polished from years of hands but the letters are too small to read from the street.

Binder's Nightcap
5 spA warm carafe of fortified wine steeped with orange peel and a scrap of charred parchment; it loosens the tongue and eases cramped fingers — a drink that leaves one unusually lucid about details for an hour (GM may grant advantage on Intelligence checks about books or handwriting once per night).
Comfortable (5e lifestyle: about 2 gp a day)

Tib the Tall · barmaid
A lanky half-elf who knows everyone's favorite shelf-cat and will fetch a lamp or lend an ear with equal efficiency.
Gorrim Ash-boot · bouncer
A broad-shouldered dwarf who prefers to break up shouting with a sermon on book care and a shove toward the door.
Brenn Otil
A bespectacled human scholar who comes nightly to study bindings and is desperate to locate a missing folio he believes completes a map.
Mave 'Thread' Corin
A wiry halfling binder who swaps gossip for needlework tips and is searching for the apprentice Silas Dorr, who vanished with a prize binding.
Ansel the Quiet
A city watch retiree who prefers corners, watches the door and keeps a ledger of who comes and goes for his own reasons.
1
Brenn Otil claims a torn page from the 'Map of Folded Paths' resurfaced in a collector's hand at the market; he thinks the rest is hidden in a binder's house on Nettlemire Lane.
2
Mave says apprentice Silas Dorr ran off with a bound volume that belonged to the guild's secret catalog — last seen boarding a northbound riverboat under a grey tarp.
3
An anonymous letter warns that a guildman named 'Vesh the Green' is buying up old bindings that hum when opened; someone believes he's assembling a key to a sealed archive beneath the shipwrights' quay.
