Vorhyrth
The Devouring Orrery
Vorhyrth is a hulking, planet-eating aberration that moves like a living eclipse: a writhing ring of toothlike carapace, tendrils of shimmering void, and a lower maw that grinds stone as if it were paper. Wherever it drifts, crops blacken, rivers slow as if pulled into a distant gravity, and memories thin like fog. Its presence warps the sky; travelers who glimpse its silhouette swear cities once stood where only bone and crater remain.

Multiattack. Vorhyrth makes two Slam attacks. It can replace one Slam with Devouring Pulse.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d8+6) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be grappled (escape DC 18).
Devouring Pulse. Vorhyrth emits a wave of consuming force in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 45 (10d8) psychic damage and has its memories and magical boons partially eaten: reduce its current hit point maximum by an amount equal to half the psychic damage taken (this reduction lasts 24 hours or until removed by greater restoration or similar magic). On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and suffers no reduction to hit point maximum.
Consume Vestige (Recharge 5–6). Vorhyrth reaches with a tendril toward one creature it can see within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be pulled up to 30 feet into the ring's maw and restrained. While restrained this way, at the start of each of the target's turns it takes 27 (6d8) necrotic damage and must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or lose a single memory of the target's choice (the DM decides a memory if none is chosen). A restrained creature can attempt the Constitution save at the end of each of its turns; on a success it is expelled and the effect ends.
Reflecting Carapace. When a creature within 20 feet hits Vorhyrth with a melee attack, Vorhyrth can use its reaction to cause the attacker to take 10 (3d6) psychic damage as the carapace flashes with void-sheen. The attacker must succeed on a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.
Vorhyrth is whispered of in coastal fishing villages and burned into the margins of celestial charts kept by paranoid astronomers. Ancient accounts claim it was born in the cold gulfs between planes — not summoned but grown, a metastasis of hunger that devours concepts and matter with equal appetite. Sea-bound cults called the Grathen Tide once worshipped Vorhyrth as a world-cleanser; their scattered ruins bear carved diagrams depicting it swallowing a sun. Scholar-priests debate whether Vorhyrth is a single entity or a slow-moving brood. The Circle of Vennor, an order of planar cartographers, keeps a detailed log called the Orrery Folios that tracks Vorhyrth's slow migrations; Archivist Hestur of Vennor argued Vorhyrth consumes not just flesh but the 'topology of meaning' — places and histories eaten until maps forget them. Kingdoms that have faced Vorhyrth rarely recover; legends tell of the fortress of Maltren, which was reduced to a ring of standing basalt where the citadel's memory was swallowed whole, its people's names fading from all documents.
Vorhyrth appears as a gigantic, asymmetric ring of layered chitin plates rimmed with serrated, crystalline teeth. The ring's interior is a roiling void, like smoked glass, speckled with siphon-like apertures that pulse with a faint phosphorescent blue when it feeds. From the rim hang dozens of long, whip-like tendrils composed of braided sinew and shimmering membrane; each tendril ends in a cluster of hook-like ossicles. The lower portion of the ring houses a cavernous maw, lined with concentric rows of grinding plates that crack stone. Texturally, the chitin is pitted and scarred with fossilized debris — stones, timbers, and metal fused into its carapace — and streaked with a tar-like residue. Scale: the ring's inner diameter is roughly 30 feet across; when it drifts near a ruined watchtower a human figure standing beside that tower reaches only to the height of one of Vorhyrth's teeth.
