Lawful Neutral (bound to a wizard)
Vesperkol
Mute Sentinel
A towering, armor-clad figure moves with the patient inevitability of a siege engine; its helm is a blank, featureless visor and a black-hilted longsword seems welded to its gauntleted hand. From that blade issues a constant, soft susurration – a chorus of indistinct syllables that burrow into the thoughts of anyone nearby. With each foe the sword fells, the susurrations sharpen and the sentinel grows more precise, more relentless. Though it makes no sound of its own, the sword's whispers do the talking — and every whisper answered by blood strengthens the sentinel's strike.

Multiattack. The Vesperkol makes two Longsword attacks.
Longsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8+4) slashing plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage, and the sword deals an additional 1d6 necrotic damage for each Echo the sword holds (see Echoes).
Whispered Dominion (Recharge 5-6). The Vesperkol forces the blade's chorus outward in a 30-foot radius. Each creature of the Vesperkol's choice in that area must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. On a successful save, a creature is immune to this Vesperkol's Whispered Dominion for 24 hours.
Echo Parry. When a creature misses the Vesperkol with a melee attack, the Vesperkol can make one Longsword attack against that creature.
Vesperkols are rare bound constructs created by occult binders who crave undemanding, unflinching servants. The most infamous of these servants was forged by the binder Malthor of Harrowfen Spire, who collapsed a guilty tribunal into a single animated knight and named the sword 'Echo of Asent'. The blade was rimed with a soft, maddening enchantment: a chorus that catalogues dead names and lends the weapon new hunger the more blood it drinks. Scholars of arcane artifacts, such as Sister-Archivist Rilven of the Order of Sable Sigils, argue that a Vesperkol is as much a living ledger as a warrior; the sword gathers 'echoes' — metaphysical traces of the slain — and those echoes feed the construct's combat prowess. Vesperkols are typically kept as guardians of vaults, living executors in cursed bargains, or unleashed in sieges. They fear only ruinous force that severs the binding rune on their cuirass or a masterful disjunction spell from a rival binder.
Imagine a knight in heavy, time-darkened plate that stands nearly two heads taller than a human; the plate is jointed in broad, angular pieces, edges worn and pitted with impact. The helm is a smooth ovoid with a thin horizontal slit of black which never reveals eyes — only an oil-slick darkness. Chainmail peeks from under scaled faulds; leather straps and rune-etched plates cross the chest where a dull bronze sigil is inset. The sword is a long, slightly curved longsword with a blackened fuller; along the blade faint runes pulse like veins. The hilt is wrapped in dark, almost glossy leather and a whisper-thin mist seems to cling to its edge. Scorch marks, dented pauldrons, and radial scoring from countless blows indicate a long history of battle.
