Veskarul
Emberroot Colossus
Veskarul is a towering, slow-moving behemoth of charred bark and smoldering heartwood — a walking, sentient ember-forest that exhales blasts of searing coals. It moves with the deliberate weight of an ancient tree uprooted from the earth, each step leaving a ring of scorched soil and smoldering ash. Its presence warps the air with heat, and creatures caught near it find tinder in their armor and hair; encounters with Veskarul are as much about surviving the environment it makes as surviving the creature itself.

Multiattack. The Veskarul makes two Slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10+4) bludgeoning damage and 7 (2d6) fire damage as hot sap sears the wound.
Ember Breath (Recharge 5-6). The Veskarul exhales a 60-foot cone of choking cinders and superheated ash. Each creature in that area must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. Flammable nonmagical objects not being worn or carried ignite.
Veskarul are rumored to be the byproduct of a long-ago experiment in grafting wildfire to living wood, a catastrophe blamed on the renegade druid-savant Irun Kest. The first Veskarul rose where Kest's hearth-furnaces burned through a winter grove; local tales say the trees themselves stitched embers into their trunks to survive the unnatural cold, and eventually one enormous trunk learned to stride. Since that first sighting, Veskarul have been found in scattered regions where geological heat meets ancient groves: sulfurous gullies, ruined smithing colonies, and the edges of volcanically warmed marshes. Scholars from the College of Verdant Inquiry have debated whether Veskarul are a stable, spreading species or solitary anomalies. The wardens of Brask keep watch near known haunts to warn settlers, and the archivist Mael Diron keeps a brittle journal of a Veskarul that nested amidst standing stones for seven summers. Veskarul seem to prefer places where living roots can feed their ember-hearts; they uproot and travel slowly, grazing roots into new soil and scorched hollows. Tribes of ash-gnarred centaurs and fire-tolerant fungi-symbionts sometimes follow a Veskarul, eking out scarce growth in its wake, while more mobile predators and humanoids avoid the heat and the storms of sparks that trail its passage.
Veskarul stands as tall as a three-story building, a hulking column of blackened bark cracked with glowing fissures. Thick root-like limbs serve as legs, each joint ringed with calcified resin that takes on the look of old iron. From its core, veins of dull ember glow beneath the surface, pulsing with each slow breath and casting a furnace-orange wash into the cracks of its hull. Where branches would be, Veskarul bears stunted, needle-like shoots that drip hot sap and shed sparks that smolder rather than flame; these shoots occasionally curl into barbed hooks that look like petrified tongues of flame. Its 'face' is a horicled knot of rings and a single, fissured maw that opens to exhale a cone of cinder and smoke. Textures range from rough, granulated charcoal to glassy, obsidian-like plates where sap has fused; scale for an artist: a human stands roughly at hip height beside Veskarul, and its root-feet are each wider than a doorway.
