Grimblewright Fen
Travelling Tinker
Grimblewright Fen looks like a compact merchant folded into himself: coat pockets bristling with brass widgets, leather satchel of curious tools, and a crooked smile that never quite reaches his eyes. He haggles in cheerful tones while sliding quaint, gleaming implements across the table — each accompanied by a faint, unpleasant aftertaste of misfortune if you use them the wrong way. Encounters with Fen are memorable because bargains with him feel personal; the tools he sells are useful enough to be tempting, and just cursed enough to make the consequences entertainingly awkward.

Multiattack. The Grimblewright makes two Toolstrike attacks.
Toolstrike. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6+2) piercing damage. Fen fights with a short wrench or folding blade kept for barter.
Cursed Trinket. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4+3) bludgeoning damage and the target must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or suffer a minor curse: it has disadvantage on its next attack roll before the end of its next turn. A target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
Swap Goods (Recharge 5-6). Fen offers to trade a harmless tool for one of his 'improved' tools. He tosses the item (shorthand for swapping an unattended item) at a creature within 5 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Charisma saving throw or the new tool emits a small, maddening poke of misfortune when used within 1 minute: the next time the creature makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw using that tool within the minute, it rolls a d4 and subtracts the result from its roll. The tool then becomes mundane and inert. If the target succeeds on the save, the swap still occurs but the tool is harmless (no curse).
Grimblewright Fen is an itinerant artisan whose origins are debated. Some say he apprenticed with the broken-metal guild in the river-port of Grissel, while others claim he was once an artificer expelled from the Collegium of Measured Sparks for daring a failed experiment with 'luck-thread'. Fen’s route is as reliable as his conscience is not: he appears at festivals, crossroads inns, and trader encampments, always with a new batch of trinkets that hum faintly with minor enchantments and misapplied wards. The tools Fen trades are sought by small-time adventurers, scrappers, and curious sheriffs who need one clever edge with little gold. The Guild of Wrenched Cogs has an uneasy relationship with him; they neither endorse his wares nor fully shun them, though Maestra Ibbren of the guild keeps meticulous records of reported incidents tied to Grimblewright merchandise. Legends say an ex-soldier once used Fen’s 'Sure-Shot Wrench' in a tower siege — it turned a vital bolt into a flower instead, saving a life and dooming a plan. Such stories keep his clientele half-amused, half-wary.
Fen stands just under six feet, slim and slightly stooped from years hunched over benches and bellows. His skin is weathered and freckled, with ink stains on his fingertips and a faint burn along his jaw where an experiment went awry. His hair is a tight, gray-tipped mop, and his eyes shine a bright, suspicious hazel. He wears a patched leather apron with dozens of pockets and straps, each pocket bulging with oddly shaped metal pieces, brittle springs, and glass vials. A folded frame of collapsible tools sits atop his satchel like a sleeping beast; brass gears, enamel chips, and a clockwork crow that never quite finishes winding are visible. Small runic scratchings — sometimes fresh, sometimes flaking — rim many of his tools, their edges smoothed by use. For scale, his satchel is about the size of a human torso and his pocketed apron could cover a hunched peasant’s chest.
